A futon vs a mattress
    #24859259 -

I started homeless in my city a year ago and I've been steadily getting on my feet. Now that I've had my own apartment for a few months, I've decided that it's time to stop sleeping on the floor and this will be my Christmas present to myself. There's a futon store that sells pretty nice futons. Nice finished wood frames and really comfortable mattresses designed for the frames that are full size. The one I'm looking at is $800 for the frame/mattress set. I also need a couch for my room so I figured this would be a win/win. Does this seem like too much to spend on a place to lay my head at the end of the night? Do you think a regular mattress/frame set would be cheaper? Or better for any reason?
Thanks for the second opinion.

Hey man, first congratulations on getting the apartment and holding onto it. Now that being said I really like the futon idea, it doubles as a couch, more bang for the buck!

Now, I can’t say if you can afford it, but by golly you need a place to rest your head. I don’t know what you’re gonna do? I’m gonna tuck this thread yonder just to see how it unfolds

I I hit over 1,600 at the casino last night and I got drunker than shit. I’m so thirsty

I spent $4500 Australian on a bed once... needless to say it was a very nice bed, but have since settle for a $800 mattress.

For a place you spend half you life laying on, I’d say spend the money. If it means being more comfortable then it’s worth it!

i'm currently making this post laying on a $30 coleman queen size air mattress inside a tent, wbich i sleep on just about as well as my sealy posturepedic bed at my house.  I couldn't imagine spending that much on a bed if you're tight on cash, especially when you can get decent ones for dirt cheap at savers or goodwill.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I'm not really tight on cash. Not extremely tight anyways. I'm ahead of rent by a couple of months along with my phone bill, my utilities and everything has been paid, and every month I always end up getting even further ahead on my necessities.
Also, I talked to the owner of the futon store a couple of weeks ago and he said that he'd let me put $250 down and then just pay $200 monthly until it was paid off and he's not going to charge me interest.
I thought about getting an air mattress, but I'd much rather spend money one time on something that will last and look nice as opposed to just gradually building up to what I want.
As for Goodwill, the mattress/frame set that I found over there is almost the same amount I'd be spending on the futon, except I'd be sleeping on a used mattress as opposed to a brand new futon that no one else has slept on.
I'm weird in the sense that I don't like to have previous "energies" for purchases like this.

I went to a Good Will Home Store where they sell over stocked mattresses brand new in the plastic.

$500 for a very comfortable king size and it came with the box springs.

So if you have one of those stores near you or even not too far go check it out.

A high quality futn is a great piece of furniture OP. Especially if you don't have a lot of space or furniture.

I had one for 5 years and I loved it. Go for it.
