when making syringes or working with spores and water. has anybody used small amounts of detergent such as dishwashing liquid soap?

Ive heard of people doing this, although i dont, but i heard its like 1 drop per syringe or something like that. I find no reason to do this. maybe for long time storage, but why would you wanna do that?

I beleive its Jet Dey rinse agent that most use, about one drop per 200cc...someone will be along shortly to confirm or deny...

I forgot to add, this is done to lower the surface tension of the water and allow the spores to be evenly dispersed in the water to avoid clumping. This provides for more even distribution when injecting BRF, grain jars, etc.

"To lessen the surface tension of the water so the spores suspend better. "
is the best explanation I've heard.

Anno recomends this recipe:
1 drop of dishwasher rinsing liquid per 200 ml of water

Don't know about soap though... best bet is to just get the dishwasher rinsing liquid and use that... 1 drop for 20 syringes is going to last you a very long time.

EDIT: Guess someone beat me to it.

I believe that you could probably use any surfactant or wetting agent, even some detergents would work well but I don't believe that real 'soap' should be used due to it possibly containing fats/oils and or lye.  I've heard that Jet-Dry works well and I would assume you could most likely use other substance as well.
I love those online dictionaries!

Best of luck!

alright! thanks alot guys. i knew it was something to do with dishwashing.
the main reason i need to use it is because i got lazy and made a personal print by just setting a cap in the bottom of a sterile half-pint. adding water and simply shaking the jar doesn't really loosen the spores from the glass. thanks!

I'm not sure if JetDry will help you there. Not doubting it tho. Report the results. Marbles are realy good for that problem. JetDry works miracles in syringes for preventing spore clumping and settling.
