I've got an app (myfitnesspal) on my iphone which you can put food/exercise into and it gives you the nutritional/caloric value back.

I've just walked back from work. It was about a 90 minute walk, but I was walking really slowly.

I put into the app that I walked for 90 mins at a slow pace of 2mph and it said I burned 270 calories doing it.

Do you think that's accurate?

I ask as I'm watching the calories at the moment - trying to stick to 1500 a day net.

Cheers!

Yeah that sounds accurate if you weigh around 150 lbs, the rate at which you burn calories depends a lot on your weight and your metabolic rate. Those apps and other calorie calculators will only give you ballpark range numbers. I run 5 miles a day and only burn around 600 calories, if you're aiming to burn 1500 its going to take a bit of effort and dedication. About 2 hours of hardcore cardio workouts should do the trick in order to burn 1500 calories/day. Although I would recommend you start off with a maximum of 800-1000.

Cheers dude. I'm not far off 150 - I'm about 157.

I probably didn't make myself too clear but I'm only looking to 'save' 500ish calories a day. I.e. I think my BMR should be around 2100 calories (desk job). Am looking to cut down about 1lb per week so am trying to reduce my intake by about 3500 kcal per week.

I'm nowhere near fit enough to burn off even 800 yet. I only run about 3 miles every other day (350 kcals-ish) but am building this up.

Cheers!
