Why not baking or nuking PF jars instead of boiling?
    #1433953 - 04/06/03 06:19 PM (20 years, 11 months ago)

I guess it's not a good idea to sterilize PF jars in the oven or microwave but I just don't understand why?

Many teks uses the microwave to nuke the substrate or the syringes for sterilization, why not nuking a PF jar with Verm/BFR/Water in it ???

SixCee, how many minutes, 5? 10? Yeah, tell me how it goes!! Why no-one or very few people tried that so far? It is easier than everything and could be a good alternative for people like me who just can't get a PC for now.

SporeDog, if you bake your jars at the lowest temp (most oven starts at 350F but with the door slightly open, i guess it will stay around 250-300), and put the lid on and cover the holes, why the water level inside the jars would change?

some microwaves don't respond well to cooking metals.... that would be the obvious reason that I wouldn't put mason jars (with their metal lids) in the microwave.... maybe if you used those plastic 'jars' that mushmush sells or something like that, then everything would be ok. microwaves make the water boil much faster than direct heat does, so it pretty much does the same thing.

good luck
