Good Alternative to a 'double bin with water' Incubator ~Pic
    #1428082 - 04/04/03 07:26 AM (13 years, 8 months ago)

llike a radiant heater...good if you don't have tons of jar in your chamber. works fine...

my friend just threw this into the middle of the chamber. notice the silicon seal where the heater goes through the lid. sealing the water in eliminates the extra humidity that open top pitchers make. the silicon came in a small 2$ tube.

Do you experiance any loss of water in the jar from evaporation, or is it completly sealed?

i dunno about everyone else and your incubator setups, but i just put all my jars as close together in a box and wrap a blanket around it....temp stays around 80 and they colonize within a month. Cheap and easy if you ask me

A few questions....I was going to use this method actually....I saw it on a tek at another web-site.

#1 - do you have to add anything to the water like peroxide?

#2 - how big is that jar and how big is the water heater?

the jar is sealed. No water loss. just a little bead of one or 2 dollar silicone around the edge. no additions to the water.

it's a quart jar and a 50W heater. if you put it in the middle of a large rubbermaid/sterilite or tupperware with a lid or blanket, it will heat 2 dozen jars or more perfectly i'd say.

shroomism, my friend has used this for a long time too. but it seems alot of people need heater plans and are having troubles with their heaters. i see lots of heater questions every day. here's a good alternative. no water spillage. nothing. trouble free heater that will work for a long time.

just like a radiater heater in a house.

Why do all that work when you can get temps at 80-85 with a night light and a styrofoam cooler.$5 worth of stuff and literally less than a minute to set up

The above is just like,my opinion man

that guy doesn't have a night light...LoL
and he doesn't have a big ugly styrofoam cooler. though, that is what he used to use. this jar with a heater is adjustable and it doesn't emit light during the incubation. of course, some people say light is ok during incubation...
