I play the didge....yes, it is spiritual.....but only when you're in the great outdoors at night in front of a fire....

playing is similar to playing a brass instrument. you buzz your lips inside the didge to produce a drone....you will know when your buzzing correctly because the tone will sound deep and full as you adapt to the didge's resonant frequency

you can make sounds in the bqak of your throat like dogs barking...animal sounds are the most common

in order to master the didge, you will need to learn how to do what they call "circular breathing"

there are many tutorials for this online if u just search.....if u can't find any pm me

good luck
cheers

Do you actually have a didj yet? Or are you just entertaining the thought? Once you have one in front of you, you should be able to figure out how to play in just a few minutes. It takes a little longer to master all of the sounds but the basic drone is pretty simple to get going. I'd start out with a bamboo didj because some of the wooden ones are too much money.

Here is my baby! she is made from Iron Bark eucaliptas (sp) termite bored from a replenishable source in Austrailia & thats my home made carry case

yeah learning circular breathing is the tricky bit but once you have it down its easy, imagine spitting water out of your cheeks & at the same time sharply sniffing air iunto your lungs then take away the water & replace with air!

when playing it is kinda like playing a brass instrument only ALOT looser buzz your lips & vocalise down the didge there should be an online tutorial that will explain it better than I can

as a matter of a fact me and my friend Kevin were tripping on some 7x Salvia Divinorum while he was playing the Didgeridoo... it has a very shamanistic feeling to me..

I can play a didg, but I can't 'circle breath' so my playing last for a minute or so then i slowly lose air, and get light headed...

i've been playin the didg for about a year now... and i love it... i have three of them... 2 eucaliptus for home use and one bamboo which is lighter and more suited for transport... the basic drone is pretty easy... just buzz your lips like a kid imitating the sound of a car... then you can modify that sound by filling or emptying your cheeks, putting your tongue against the roof of your mouth and usin your actual voice in combination with the drone... i learned the circular breath using a glass with a little bit of water, and a straw... took me about a day to figure it out on the straw, and 2 more weeks to get it done on the didg... check out some didge sites, which is from where i got most of my info... there are also some cd tutorials around... i have 2 of them and they are pretty amazing... when i started playing i never thought you could modify that drone into so many different sounds... and then the rythm play... there are actually 2 kinds of circular breath on the didge... the traditional one where you squeeze the air out of your cheeks to keep the drone while breathing in through the nose is called in-pop... and then there's the out-pop, which is a little more complicated... you basically give a so called bass-shot (kind of like a "huh", you blow a short but strong huh right out of your lungs) which produces a counter-pressure in your mouth that gives you the time to take a short sniff of air through your nose... i dont really know how, but it works!!  this one is especially useful in rythm play... i wish you luck man, and have lots of fun!!
