I bothers me when people think retaliation is always neccessary, don't you see what is happening in the MIDDLE East right now? Woohoo, yeah! war! ...I hope they all die early deaths and leave this world to those who love life.

If you don't retaliate, you'll be struck again by those who realize you're not going to fight back. Appeasement and turning the other cheek are the stuff fairy tales are made from.

The attack on 9/11 was on america, and lots of innocents died, that doesn't mean that you need to kill those responsible behind it, but rather find out why the attack was made and resolve the problem.

OMG!!!  That is too funny!!!

Um yeah, right.

Typical liberal idiocy.

Whose playbook are you reading from son?

Daschle?  Herr Clinton?  Heiress Klinton?

Wow!

Yeah, I see your point.  When we were attacked in Pearl Harbor there should have been a time of introspection.  We should have immediately started wondering where we went wrong.

Tell you what.  If I see you at a gathering, identify yourself so I can knock the living shit out of you so you can practice what you preach.

While your laying there on the ground with blood pouring out of your nose you can wonder what you've done wrong.

Then, and only then, will I respect that kind of sentiment.

I only pity anyone foolhardy enough to place themselves under your protection.
And I doubly pity your children if you have them or when you have them.

While I understand your sentiment, I also understand that an Iraqi civilian may feel the same way towards America after their families are ripped apart by a "mistake" of our troops. And thus the vicious cycle continues......

Or ripped apart by the malicious intent of their leader.

Fair enough, but after Saddam is deposed of, surely there will be some Iraqis left that have had personal attrocities as a direct result of this war. What about them? Are they right in wanting to retaliate?

Those Iraqis will be just like those who live free in America and yet still are not happy being in the most free country in the world.

But you're missing the point.

1. Az said that we should kill those responsible for attacking us
2. MM said that's retarded and we shouldn't just sit back when attacked.
3. So I asked if the Iraqis had the same claim to retaliate that we have.

I agree ski, but how many Iraqis are truly fighting for Saddam? These people, including civillians, follow orders or face serious consequences.

Im not saying collateral damage is good, but war cannot be so precise as to miss every innocent civillian. Especially since Saddams army has resulted to guerilla warfare. In doing so some targets are civillians.

Don't get me wrong.  I don't think we should even be over there as we are.

I feel horrible about most of this loss of life.

I'm pretty much a pacifist unless you touch someone under my protection.

Then, I'll kill you.

Cheers,

Yes, good posts Plato. We are of a like mind on the subject. Anyone who targets* the innocent should be terminated with extreme prejudice.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

Unfortuently, these people have now been placed in a worse position. Think about it... They fight for Saddam to not be killed by him, or else they will be killed by "coalition" attacks. Americans are not helping save Iraqi people... They are just putting them in a worse position than they were in the first place.

Of course if we had these great technologicaly advanced weapons, we could just bomb the shit out of Saddam from above, but, it really doesn't seem that easy.
