Mushroom growing into perlite?

Ok so my friend has this cake, and one of the mushrooms growing off is huge, but the problem is that it is growing right down into the perlite. Should he prop it up with something or just let it grow?

I would say pick it if it is semi close to being mature, right before they break the veil is the perfect time to pick i hear (more potent)
