What should you do to prepare for your first trip?
    #1403378 -

We found some cubensis or whatever, and me and a friend are about to eat tiny pieces of it, should we dry them first or something?

I like how you say "we found some cubensis or whatever"

Well I will say If it is P.cubensis prepare for a decent time by eating about 30 fresh grams or 3 gram dried if it is "whatever" best not to eat it or prepare to call an ambulance and die of liver failure if you are wrong

yeah, don't eat it if you'r not 100% sure what it is, because if its not what you want, it can fuck you up.

But if it is, you'll have a great time.

Well for an indication... you need more than one half of a mushroom ok

Like I said above you probably need an Ounce of Fresh mushrooms for a good time. or 3 grams dried...

Also have a bit more respect for your body when eating wild mushrooms... a photo identification isnt all that is required...

Did it turn blue when handled??

Was the spore print purple? ]

There are many factors important in hunting mushrooms.

First off I should have paid attention while I registered, jARROD :/

Uh they did not turn blue when handled they were short stemmed and all white accept for the very top middle which was light brown. Didnt taste any different from a mushroom you would buy at a supermarket.

1 fresh mushroom, unless it weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-60 grams, won't make you feel a thing.  Also, one fresh mushroom weighing 30-60 grams  still won't make you feel anything if you  boil it!  I can't imagine why you would think you should do this, but one thing that destroys psilocin and psilocybin very effectively is heat.  I'd say the weight issue is the secondary problem, because you eradicated most (if not all) of the substances that make you trip!  Oh well, lesson learned.  Just remember next time, you can either eat them fresh or dry them with a fan, but there shouldn't be any heat involved.  I hope that you're able to find more, because you will not be disappointed if you do.  Good luck!!

Edit - Dehydrators work well as long as they are either no-heat units or else they have the heating element disabled.  I wish I could tell you how to do that, but I don't have a dehydrator so I've never had to worry about that.  It is pretty important that the mushroom stains blue.  When you get more of them, take one and break off a piece of it (it can be large or small, it makes no difference).  Check it every few mins to see whether or not you see a blue color where the mushroom was broken.  This should occur within an hour's time.  The mushrooms that I've seen blue almost immediately (within 1 minute).

Why not post an identification request in the Mushroom Hunting forum. THe experts there are always willing to help out a n00b. If all you have is a visual comparison I would not eat those shrooms. There's some shrooms that exactly resemble others that are extremely poisonous.

Whoa, wait a minute. I may very well be wrong here, but if these did not stain blue, and they came from a tree on a creek, I believe there is a very good chance that these are not P. Cubensis. I haven't ever heard of cubensis growing on a tree. That isn't to say that it doesn't happen, it only means that I've never heard of it. P. Cubensis usually is found in cow fields growing from cow dung. My advice would be to take a closer look at what you have there. Perform the blue test on it, the spore print test on it (it doens't really need to be sterile, just put it on a piece of paper to check the color of the print), and try to ID it by photos some more. Here's how to sporeprint, but like I said you don't have to worry about being sterile because you're not using it for anything but color ID. Also wait until others post what they think. I am not saying that I am correct in this by any stretch, but I would wait because I wouldn't want to ingest a potentially poisonous mushroom. Good luck!

your description of the mushroom and its location suggest that it is definately NOT p. cubensis. It is extremely unwise to attempt eating these mushrooms you have found. Definately do not eat any more! It's astonishing (and you're quite lucky) that you haven't gotten extremely ill!

Its amazing that you are posting this HERE on the shroomery when all the information you need to know about identifying mushrooms is a click away...

You ate an unknown mushroom which does not bruise blue that does not inhabit the same habitat as Ps.cubensis and decided because it didn't work to get more...

If you do not reply to this I will assume you have been the next unfortunate poisoning victim.

I should mention that if it had been a psilocybian mushroomthen boiling it wopuld have place all of the chemicals in the water (shroom tea) and none would have been in the shroom. Well maybe a little.

mj

Please fdo not eat shrooms without having them id-ed.

You are correct sir. I guess I was right for his purposes, but wrong in general. I didn't even think about shroom tea. I thought that boiling temps were enough to completely destroy psilocin and psilocybin, but i guess not. Approximately how much does it destroy, about 50%? Thank you for the correction.
