What the hell? A.bisporus SEEDS! What are they? (pics)

It appears to be some kind of grain with white stuff all over it. I cut one in half, and it is brown and transparent inside. There are no signs of anything growing inside it. It is completly dry.

Is this just grain treated with spores?

Would those few kernels of grain be enough food to even support fruiting?
How are you supposed to 'plant' them?
Just dump the whole bag in and cover it with an inch of potting soil and water?

or like regular planting.. put 1-3 'seeds' per pot?

Odd item.. let us know if it works?

I got some of those way back when I didn't know shit about mycology.
It said to plant them in compost then sit back and watch your glorious harvest of delicious mushrooms to appear:D
needless to say, they didn't do shit:tongue:

Interesting!

I would say their instructions 'could' work if you added a few more steps., but first...

First, what I would try is to dilute 3-5% H2O2 to distilled H2O. Then place a few kernels in a very small amount of the solution above (maybe 1 cc). Wait an hour and drain the small amount of solution off and check on the "seeds" in 24 hours to see if any new growth begins begins to cover them.

If that works, you could modify the instructions some more to try to fruit them (but don't get your hopes up)...

Pretty cool idea they are though...

I bought oysters dried spawn. It didn't work for me.
I also tried to place these grains on agar and all I got was massive contamination outbreak.

when i got my Agaricus bisporus grow fit the sawdust block was completely dehydrated but on adding 1 liter of water it sprang back to life and produced many mushrooms so it can be dehydrated to a very dry state with out death.

If i had that grain spawn i would pop a couple into some honey water and see what happens :-) the rest i would just useas spawn to bulk.
