It's based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller (which I just bought and read recently. Definitely recommend it.)

But yeah, he got to such a level in just 5 movies, the guy's a genius.

The movie was amazing. I only agreed to go because of the lezzy scene, but it was quite possibly the best movie to be released in the last 365.

well, there can always be an objective point of view in film, to base one another's subjectivity on.

there can be an exact reason to the film. but there can also not be...

film is more importantly about the exploration of what is not exact. unless you are doing a documentary or expresssionist film.

"An objective point of view" is a nonsensical or a religious statement.
And what do you call a "reason to the film"?

Expressionism has nothing to do with exactitude; caligarism had a very specific aesthetic with well-defined shapes and objects, the use of accurate shadows and bright lights, but there's nothing exact about that.
Documentaries also express a point of view, unlike reporters who are journalists and are required to make an effort to stay somewhat "objective".

Film is an exploration of what is not exact simply because the only exact things in life are abstract sciences like mathematics.

awesome post. i was mainly speaking in general though, and i would suggest that some objective aesthetics be presented to some degree, in general. but i'd agree with you, the proper film is always left undecided unless by the viewer. but i was talking about general objectives like devised lighting and lens capture... proper cinematography like with framing and cuts and such.

Oh yes, but such analysis takes much more time than the quick overview anyone has done here! And I probably won't make such an anlysis until I've seen the movie a second time to have a better appreciation of aesthetic and technical details.

But I can at least say that the camera was almost perfect, showing at the same time the struggling bodies of the dancers, the spinning world they dive into when dancing, and the paradox held within a ballet: from afar, every dancer is a light, delicate and precious character; but from up close, their strong muscles, their wounded limbs and the sweat on their skin underlines their heaviness and the almost sacrificial effort they put into their art.

And this is just one small piece of this movie...!
