Amsterdam advice

Hi everyone, me and a friend are both heading to Amsterdam very soon and we'd like some general useful information that the rough guides won't publish like where the best coffee shops/clubs are located and what we most definitely should avoid when we're there etc...

Of course we'll be wanting to visit some museums and other attractions too so if any of you have any recommendations that would be great. (Already have the Anne Frank & Cannabis ones in mind)

We have booked the flights and are currently looking into cheap hotels/hostels/b&b's so anyone with past, pleasant experience with accomodation would also be helpful.

there's a christian hostel with good prices www.hostelworld.com

Barney's is the best coffe shop IMO, its not far from the train station. Anne frank house sucks. Eat at the asian restaurant across from barney's, its good... what else... redlight district is where your most likely to be hasseled. Book all accomodations in advance or horrible things can happen... Don't take pics of the whores, bad shit can happen if you do...

Declare any pipes you buy as "glass figurines" on customs forms coming home.

Feminized seeds are a rip off.

Ask to use the house bong, lots of places have them.

If your going to stay in a coffee shop for a long time you need to keep ordering shit like drinks or they might ask you to leave. Don't smoke something that you didn't buy there unless you bought something there as well, or unless you come in a couple times so they recognize you. God, if I was with you I could show you places I can't remember the names of.

if u buy a pipe to use get a shitty one to trash on the way out

rolling j's by hand is good but only if your proficient...

save a liitle of every weed and hash you buy and on the last night for your finishing move roll a gaint mixed blunt of everything.

I wish we was with someone who knows the area well as we both have never been before and therefore are alien to the area.

best hostel in my opinion is flying pig and bulldog

best coffee shop - damprking (sp) at least it was 4 years ago

if you head to the Van Gogh museum be sure to get there hella early. place is exceedingly popular and the lines are fuckin atrocious. either that or buy a ticket online.

have fun and watch out for bicyclists, they're everywhere (and damn, some of those bicyclists are cute!).

If you want better quality weed and hashish do not buy anything from anyone in the red light district except "The Greenhouse", recommended coffeeshops not far from the right light are "The Twede Karma" also known as "The Second Room" "Rokerij" especially if you like exotic hashish "De Dampkring" translates as "The Atmosphere" this is ran by the same people who run "the Twede karma" so your gauranteed good quality.

If you want even better quality and value gear and you have time take a quick train to somewhere like Haarlem the big difference here is they rely on local custom to stay alive mostly compared to Amsterdam who survive on wave after wave of tourists, in the smaller places they all compete with each other for the towns business and try to out do each other on quality and value for money.

If you do go to haarlem check out "Maximiliion" even has free internet. I popped in last xmas and was given a present as soon as I walked through the door of a gram of weed a pack of papers and a maximillion branded lighter and It had been over a year since my last visit, before this i called in monthly for 2 years tho.

Enjoy yourself and when walking round the red light district prepare yoruself for the area called "De Oude Kirk" translation "The Old Church" the hookers down there are some crazy bitches knocking on the window when your walking past. I was walking through there one time with my brother, we are both 1.80m tall i am 280lbs but he is 170lbs this big black woman about 40-50 years old knocks heavily on the window opens her little door and shouts to us

"Hey, small boy! For 50 guilders you fuck me, your friend fuck my ass for free!!" I assume she was directing the small boy comment to my brother, great times we were shrooming our faces off and nearly shit a house brick each then burst out laughing (i was only 22 then)

I like the Bulldog because its one of the few places you can drink and smoke pot.

They also have loads of pipes and bongs and chess boards on the tables so you can play chess too.  Oh and they have games consoles that anyone can play.
