Best peppermill

I've gone through a few in my day but by far the best pepper grinder I've ever owned (and still do own) is this...

Ceramic grinding stone, adjustable grind, easy to fill or change bases on.

Cheap too.

I've had grinders break the first day! but I've had this for months, no wearing out, never changes grind size on it's own, easy to adjust.
Same grinder mechanism they use in the $30 SPRAKA but it isn't 16 inches tall.
And it doesn't shit pepper everywhere you put it down cause the grinder is on top.

Me happy.

I'm still looking for my perfect pepper mill.  That ikea model you offered up is simply too small for me.  I won't get a comfortable grip on it for the amount if grinding I'll need to do to satisfy my taste (I love pepper).  Furthermore, because it's so small, I'd be refilling it every week at least.  Anyone have suggestions for a good mill that's about 3 times that size?

I, like Alton Brown, prefer a multipurpose tool for the kitchen and
always recommend something with multiple uses, Cole & Mason have
developed just the tool we can all welcome in our homes, not only can

Well, let's see how they fair in LeMans this year with their diesel LMP which gave the venerable Audi team a lot to worry about.

The recent pugs I drove in Europe this past summer were all very well put together and had a lot of features compared to the cheap econoboxes we get here that are essentially rebadged daewoos and suzukis. Americans aren't very good at making cars either, if they were then I'd like to believe we wouldn't be current majority shareholders of GM.

oh, and they also make very good bicycles.

I have this:

and I love it. I only cook a couple times a week and I refill once ever 4-6 months. I imagine you can probably fit about a cup  or more of peppercorns in it. I like it's length which makes grinding easier and more directional. The gears are under a lifetime warranty. And besides, I think it's just a beautiful piece to have in the kitchen.

What I want next is an acrylic peppermill to house a peppercorn blend.

I advise against the acrylic, my mom got me a set a couple of years ago and
even though they've never been dropped or over tightened the tops have cracks
the mechanism is still good so I'll probably make new bodies from wood and
swap out the parts

As nifty as the baseball bat mill looks, that's probably a little too big for me!  The peugeot fountainebleau fazdazzle posted looks just about perfect, thanks. :smile:

actually the bat was a bit of a joke, one of the things to consider in buying
a pepper mill is to decide of you want a crusher or a grinder, I prefer the
grinder because it seems to allow the flavor to stick around longer during
the cooking process, it's not crushing the seed and leaving many of the oils
behind in the seed, my sister bought this one for me several years ago

I've bought 2 of those and both fell apart, I popped the top and added it to
my other grinder, they only one that worked was the salt grinder

When I was looking for pepper grinders when I bought mine I kept coming across this one:

It has a pretty good reputation. Apparently it shoots out quite a bit of pepper as it grinds.

I bought the salt grinder once.. The salt absorbed too much moisture before I could use it all.  Never had a problem with the pepper mill.

I gather by your posts that you are real rough in the kitchen..  You should get in touch with your feminine side more and just relax.

Yea, this thread has definitely delivered a lot to choose from.  I am on the cusp, and I think that I'll
probably give this mill a try.  It's definitely pricey, but I've spent this much on a a one night concert,
so what's $100 for a piece of hardware with great utility that I'll use daily for years?

    I really dig the multiple grind selector that (according to the reviews) makes a marked difference in
    grind size and texture from point to point.  While an adjustable screw is effective, the point by point
    selector will allow for more consistent variation if, for example, m'lady always uses a finer grind while
    I'd prefer a coarser grind.  Having to fiddle with a variable screw adjustment on a near daily basis
    doesn't sound as appealing as having the point by point selector!

This is my philosophy.

Looks like a good choice btw.

Peppermills have a huge influence on my quality of life, i am so glad you all agree.

It's threads like this that reaffirm my love of the shroomery.

FYI - My work recently took me out to a fairly high end Italian restaurant, and their servers had a 3-4' long peppermill!
