I was on it 4 years ago for a little while. It's god awful stuff. Don't take it unless you have no better choice. Diet and exercise are a million times more effective. I can say that even though I'll have a BS in psychology soon...

the best way i can describe it is that it felt kinda like an inner ear thing. like if you were standing on a ship and it hit a wave kinda hard and you got rocked to the side kinda hard but could keep yourself from falling over. that coupled with a weird vision thing. almost like if you do two nitrous balloons in a row and start to seriously dissociate from reality to the point where you can still see, but its almost like you dont know how to process what you're seeing. but only for half a second. idk its really hard to explain.  basically it felt like reality just kinda blinked out for a second and came back.

the spinning was more likely due to you being at a different elevation than usual, not from quitting lexapro... just my opinion.

i wasnt at a different elevation. well, i may have been, but it certainly wasnt anything dramatic enough to make me dizzy. I've been to fairly high elevations in the rocky mountains on hiking trips and never gotten altitude sickness. and i live in michigan. so it was a BIG change in altitude. anyway, it wasnt like i was spinning continuously. It was like the ground underneath me moved, turning me 180 degrees in a half a second, but when i looked up i was right back where i was supposed to be.

hm... i dunno. I have been on and off of antidepressants for years, but have never experienced what you are describing during withdrawal. not doubting you, just giving my input.

for sure. idk if you've tapered when you quit but i didnt taper off. at all. i just stopped taking it one day. i've been on and off em for years as well and the last couple times i decided to stop them i just quit cold turkey. only this last time did i have any problems.

idk, maybe it was unrelated to withdrawal. :shrug: but it sounds kinda like how people describe brain zaps so i figured thats what it was. didnt happen before I quit the lexapro, and didnt happened since my latest withdrawal from lexapro.

SSRI withdrawal sucks tho. i wish i had been smart about tapering, woulda saved myself a lot of grief. oh well. i'm off now and feeling better than i ever did on them. I mean, SSRIs helped me a lot in the short term of dealing with my OCD and anxiety issues, but i'm glad to be rid of them. especially after asshole doctors said i'd never be able to get off of them because of anxiety and motor tics. but my anxiety level today is almost 0, and my motor tics are still present but the more time i spend without taking amphetamines the better they get.

it's one of the few SSRI's i've not taken, but i had an ex who was on it and it worked great for it. it is less horrible than prozac or paxil; but like all SSRI's, as you said, it should only be taken for 2-3 months tops to help you get back on your feet and doing things like you used to.

Unfortunately I had one of the sexual side-effects, it was impossible to ejaculate.

Now that's depressing.


I've been prescribed to many SSRI's over the years by many doctors, but it's been years since I've taken any medication and I now deal with the ups and downs of life like a normal person should.  Without psych drugs.


Most of the time it was a general practitioner (:rolleyes:) who would prescribe me an SSRI because I mentioned I had anxiety, and/or that I felt "down" a lot.  I'll bet the most effective solution for most SSRI patients would be to change their lifestyle.

Taking prescription meds for unhappiness is a cop-out in most cases, IMO.

my gf is saying that i could be a more happier person i ngeneral, i rarely smile, dont like to be in center of attention, lack of self confidence, always take everything in, i bring myself down, had a douchebag father and so on... im a forensics and pharmaceuticals student, i live with my girlfriend, been with here for 5 years now, met her when i was 15 now im 20, and from the side my life is nothing to worry about, but a lot of things come from the past not pleasant teenage years, changed schools at 16 moved to live in ireland. the only time i remember myself being happy as shit is when i was 5-10years old.
last summer quit smoking fags and after a months experieced horrible panic attack, i thought i was gonna die (coming back after summer work late evening) i had racing heart, couldnt speak properly and terrror ive never felf before in my life it lasted for two hours finally got to the doctor that evening and he said im perfectly fine, i was really embarrased in front of my family, ever since then i cant feel calm and developed this phobia, im afraid to hear my own heart pumping.i find really hard to fall asleep when im not that sleepy its because i can hear my heart pumping when i lay down. so decided to go to doctor and he prescribed it along with atenolol and he said i should she psychologist or psychiatrist

btw from the story it might sound like im emo or loser or some shit like that but i have never thought of suicide and always take it as a man, i also play lamb of god with my guitar, smoke occasionally weed,  and in parties if you pissed me off youll get a puch in a face. but thats not the point, its just people say when im totally relaxed im a very nice person, also im sensitive so it touches me when i have to talk about my feelings and shit, im not lost or anything its just i need some boost to feel myself again, tell me if this med will help me. :crazy2:

I'd stay away from the SSRI's if at all possible.  They're bad news.  Some people need them, but I think that should be reserved for dire circumstances.

I've dealt with mild depression/anxiety for a long time, but one thing I know is that a pill is not magic, and it's not going to make your problems go away.

word. in my opinion, SSRIs are to mental pain as opiates are to physical pain.

they're a bandaid. taking SSRIs for mental illness your whole life is like popping oxy's for a broken leg your whole life instead of just getting that fucker fixed.

sometimes you need a bandaid, but it aint a long term solution. I'd say just take the meds while your leg heals and then ditch them when you've recovered. recovery takes a lot of work, but its better than being stuck feeling helpless and popping pills.

as with physical pain however, there are rare cases where people need to be on medication for a problem that just cant be fixed by therapy and healing.

word. Wellbutrin made me feel GREAT. but after a while it made my anxiety worse and only helped my depression. so if you arent prone to depression, wellbutrin may be a good choice. it feels a LOT less zombifying than SSRIs. even energizing.

Wellbutrin is better than SSRI's from what I've heard.

It's a Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitor.

Yea if you have taken for long enough, brain zaps do occur.  I even get them when I forget to take a couple doses. Kinda worries me though.  Kinda like, how much am I really dependant on these fuckers.

My advice/opinion is still the same:
Try it.For 3weeks,wich is the minimum time for your body to get used to it and stop having reactions anti-lexapro.

If you start feeling better,great! Use that to start gettin'on your feet.You shouldnt take it more than 5months.
After it help you get on your feet you should walk by yourself you know?But consult your Doc first.

If it doesnt work or you feel bad even after the first 3 weeks,stop it,go to your Doc,report the simptoms and get another.

But dont think: im not gonna take anything! (just cuz everyone here is soooooo strong and dont need any of that BS!-------> being sarcastic)

Everyone is different from eachother....Some ppl cope without it,some need a lil help from a pill.And YEAH it does work.

Now its your life,you decide what to do.
