i'm constantly distracting myself from myself
    #13799151 -

i can't bare to be alone with my thoughts.

i don't even know what to think. when i can't find a distraction my mind either broods or is analyzing my thoughts and desires...and they all seem so carnal...yet they don't really satisfy anything other than to distract myself even more.

what am i doing here?

Make a decision concerning those desires.

Don't fault from that decision or desire. (It takes self-control)

Complete desire, and move on to the next one.

You'll feel better.

a lot of my desires depend on other people. and i can't just go and "obtain" them.

for example. i want a girlfriend....
yet i don't seem to be attracted to anyone on more than a physical level. i don't know where to begin in satisfying this desire. my social skills are fair at best.

other desires are financial in nature...and i can't stand the work i do to make money and i don't really have too many options because I'm still in college (at age 27).

feel a little helpless in this overwhelming existence.

I'm going to be the broken record dude. This is classic death anxiety. In whatever form you are experiencing it and whatever else it might seem like at the very very bottom it's death anxiety.

Check out Ernest Becker's book "Denial of Death". If at that time you agree then you will have to make some very difficult decisions. I truly don't think anyone here is going to give you more help than that.  You are going to have to work out your own salvation but at least you'll know what you're up against.

I got the book at the Public Library.  Most libraries should have it.

You can get it off demonoid if you don't want to purchase it.

While you're at it you should read "Think and Get Rich" and some stuff by napoleon hill....as well as things about the law of attraction.

To me...it also sounds like "Death Denial"...however that's kind of a broad term.

You could get a girlfriend and as much money as you needed. You just have to do it...if you REALLY want something...nothing can stop your desire. You just have to plan it...and take action.

Next time you catch yourself distracting yourself...move onto something constructive and something you really like...brooding is NOT going to get you anywhere.

I also feel that it is completely natural for a man to feel helpless and lost within himself if there is no goal that said man is striving for.

Word. But I find it very admirable if a man can stand to look at that helplessness and confusion for any duration of time. Much more admirable than the man who never stops planning or trying to achieve goals.

I can't even begin to formulate a plan to get a girlfriend. besides that sounds so contrived. I want one of those fairy tale romances, not some dating website.

i do need to make a budget and actually stick too it...

coming up with a plan.

off to the library. peace.

To each his own.

I try to remember what DJ had to say about it.

"A path is just a path and all paths are equal, they lead into the bush and back out of the bush and in the end all paths meet. And the only thing of any importance for an individual is to ask this question. Does this path have a heart?"

I'm with ya.

I thought about that when posting.
But I decided there was no reason to hold my feelings on the matter back.

I've recently found my mind fighting for air with a recent back injury. It wants to know what's up. Where did this come from? Why did this happen? When will this go away? What can I do to improve it? Who is this really happening to? How can I prevent it in the future?

Several who, what, when, where, and whys later, it still hurts :tongue2:

Pretty interesting overall.

I think the most difficult part has been convincing myself not to go to work. That tendency to invest in something larger. I've invested myself in the company I work for more than I realized.

I had years of daily back problems. All emotional.

:strokebeard:

Did it start with a cause? I was lifting a heavy desk with a co-worker but when setting it down we miscommunicated and I couldn't get my hands out from underneath. So in a stooped position I lifted a good chunk of weight with one arm to pry the other out. After that I couldn't bend over quite right.

There is always a trigger. If it's emotional the trigger sets a pattern. If it's not overly emo then you'll soon be on the mend.

That's pretty much what I'm counting on. Physically I can feel the swelling in the low back. Pain is exacerbated by yoga asanas initially and everything tightens up restricting movement. After the constriction comes a re-limbering with additional mobility.
