Text to learn Sanskrit?

I would like to learn Sanskrit. I know it's an incredibly difficult language to learn, but I'd like to just have a rudimentary understanding of it. Can anyone suggest a teaching book or audio series for a beginner?

I was looking at this one, from amazon.com.
