LOL pappy ... that came out completely wrong ... I meant that I just wanted to hear admins/mods actually comment on what they think of me becoming a mod, not what criteria ls was basing his decision on ... but in any case ...

Karen, you made a lot of excellent points, and I completely agree with you. If I plan on thinking about modship, I should start changing my way of posting beforehand ... regarding upholding rules, I will enforce all said rules of OTD, though the difference between me and most mods is that, since I generally take on a neutral position, I won't be so quick to lock a thread, and I won't be too lenient either. If a thread seems like it should be locked, but it isn't completely obvious, I would discuss BEFORE locking, instead of acting first and then discussing after. This is where I think I would do well. People hate to see their shit just locked up, a discussion would do everybody well.

Just because I'm HB doesn't mean I wouldn't uphold my responsibilities, and if I seemed to be doing a shitty job, then just un-mod me.

But yes, just put me last in terms of site priority, there is certainly no rush ...

I like HB, I think he could be a good mod for sure..

I think there has to be a balance of mods in OTD of people who have differing opinions so that not just one side is heard.

I do agree some respect should always be shown for others. HB may have crossed the line before, but we all fuck up sometimes.

I don't know, I think HB has a good heart and would be a good candidate for OTD and to the mod team.

Maybe HB you could share with us your thoughts about OTD as it is now, and any concerns you have.

Don't be shy to criticize, because that is an important trait in a good mod, no 'YES' men need to apply.

Since the Admins are openly discussing this issue in public, let me publicly add my feelings on the matter...

Fair is fair, Anno, and in the sake of balance, I would like to say that those same points apply to me...

I have showed utter disrespect (not only disagreement, which per se is ok) for administrative decisions in the past. ( -> 3D and I had a hell of a battle once, but we made up, and all is well :smile: )

People grow and evolve, and HB is at a tender young age where he is shooting up like a bean pole. He has really, IMHO, shown very good judgement, and lighthearted diplomatic ability in these past few months. I think HB could bring some excellent innate skills to the table in terms of being able to work with people through his unique posting style to both diffuse tense situation and keep things light and breezy!

I think we all realize that adding one new OTD Mod would be a good idea, and I still feel, as I have in the past, that HB is deserving and would rise to the occasion. I think there is great promise in him. He is like a little seed, that contains the energy stores and genetic coding, for a brighter tomorrow full of the leafy green foliage of peace and understanding! :grin:

Seriously, Some candidates may not seem right at first, but then they rise to the occasion, and become a very pleasant surprise. I think you may find this is the case with HB. I have thought about this for a while now, and have watched him closely, these past two months, with a jaundiced eye, and I must say, that I think he has shown great potential, of late... :cool:

To HB: I think a serious issue that you need to address regarding a modship are your feelings about the sanctity of the Mod forum, and whether the other Mods can trust you not to "tell tales out of school." The Mod forum is a place for the Moderators of this community to speak freely, and hold open debates about the management of this site. Many things get said there in the "heat of battle," and it is important that these things not become rumors and idle gossip which spread, become distorted and misunderstood, and hurt other people's feelings needlessly. We cannot administrate this site effectively without a private place to debate one another, bring up thoughts and new ideas, and make decisions, without the constant static of the mob.

Please address this issue, and explain your feelings on it, and why it is that the other moderators should feel that they can trust you. This has been an important issue lately, and one of the main reasons we haven?t been adding new staff.

Also, remember that being a Moderator involves walking a fine line and trying to fulfill not just the interests of a few members, but of this entire site -- A MYCOLOGY SITE -- and its administration. This means that you will be often in situations where EVERYBODY hates you, but if you accept this fact, and carry on your duties with confidence, concern, and caring, then at least MOST will respect you. Please, also be very sure that you really want this, as it does change the experience for you, and in a way: "once you?re a mod, you?re always a mod" -- it's damned hard to ever go back, once you're on the other side of the looking glass... :wink:

So are you sure about this? Are you ready to accept the yoke of responsibility around your neck, and pull the interests of this entire site, its membership and administration, behind you? If so, then answer this simple question, do you want to take the red pill or the blue pill? :grin:

What I?d like to see is actually see HB act as he said he would when he would be a mod.
I?d like to see some dedication to the site, some reliability(for instance he could finish that "I?m going to devote all my free time to"....fiasco ).

Prove that you are really worth being a moderator and a valued contributor.

There are already enough people who only like to discuss things instead of DOING something.

Annos's points are well taken, as always, and although I agree with Thor about his candidacy, we are certainly in no hurry here. I would like to hear HB address my concerns about Moderator trust and Mod forum security. I want to know how he feels about these issues before I will render my vote...

There has been too much paranoia around here lately, and I blame some of it on drugs, but a lot of it is also the result of too much idle gossip. Besides being silly, it is counter-productive and damaging to this community. I have gotten to know all of the Admins and most of the Mods here, and they are damn good people who work hard and deserve the respect of this community. Some of the paranoid shit, I see flying around here, is beyond silly, and has made me just want to give up on more than one occasion. This behavior must stop, and the main issue I see right now is fellow Moderator TRUST. I want to hear where HB stands on this. I'm pretty sure that I know, but I want a well-thought-out public statement, so that his potential fellow moderators will feel good about his possible appointment... :smile:
