would this work well as a fruiting chamber?
it would be one smaller rubbermaid container for the casing, sitting inside a larger container, which is filled with a layer of perlite, and heated by a heating pad beneath.

Why do you need a heat pad?
You're going to have to fan that. Perlite isn't always clean and may give you trich.
Humidity doesnt need to be that high, 85-92% for casings.
Looks simple enough if you are willing to mist and fan.

yes fanning and misting will be involved.

also, it will be covered by a clear plastic lid that will be stored in the dark for most of the day and then exposed to light a few hours a day as well.

Perilite is "relatively" sterile by nature(heated to 800+degrees F) , so do not worry about trich , if you are worried just make up a mix of peroxide and distilled water at a ratio of 20:1(water to peroxide) , this will stop all nasties in the resevoir . Heat pad will work , but has risk of fire and tough to maintain a stable temp with it , try the old fish tank heater in a jar of peroxidated water (20:1 ratio again) .
But yes your setup should work . Ever consider ten gallon fish tanks ? They work good .
