In windows, run regedit.exe then goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then Software, then Microsoft, then Windows, then Current Version, then RunServices and RunServices-. You can delete the keys if you don't want the programs to run on startup. You can also run msconfig.exe if you have it or you can. From what I know, there is no system file that you can edit to prevent these from running. Its all in the registry.

You could also check the Startup menu in your Start > Startup thing...

try reformatting everything - that should stop things from starting up when you turn on your computer.

First check the startup folder on the start menue, also check the options in apps that are starting. Uncheck any load at startup. Lastly you can edit the registry, or use a "tweak" tool like Xteq systems X-setup.

Depends on the version of windows... click start, run, and type 'msconfig' and see if the application is there. If so, it should do the trick.

If you're using win98 or higher you can just drag and drop any icon on the startup folder via Start button menu. Copy&paste also works just remember you can use the RIGHT button anywhere on the start button menu.

To copy and reiterate two post here do this

Turn on your computer

Once windows is loaded click "START" then hit "RUN"

Type in "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) a folder will appear with tabs at the top

Click on the tab that says "Startup" and UNcheck EVERY box EXCEPT "system tray". Hit "APPLY" then reboot/restart your computer.

Your comp will reboot much faster without that other shit running in the background. Be careful of "Real audio" software, because when you find something on the net that requires you to use it, it will set it as a default and will continue running on startup.
