State Department Warns Students Against Discussing WikiLeaks on Facebook, Twitter

A State Department official warned students at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs this week that discussing WikiLeaks on Facebook or Twitter could endanger their employment prospects.

If I worked for the state department, i wouldn't want any people who were pro-wiki-leaks to be hired.  I mean, its the STATE DEPARTMENT.  Goldmine for wikileaks prospects.

Why is this story being reposted, and reposted, and reposted?

It verges on sensationalism, when there are plenty of other things happening there is no need to be sensational about.

So students were informed that if they link to the WikiLeaks cables, they're probably going to have poor luck getting a government job.

Haha, funny you should say that; I just had the same idea. I think I'm actually gonna try to torrent the book, print out a bunch of copies, and distribute them. Or at least some of the more straightforward passages, considering the attention span of the masses.

Anyone who's going to read it has already read it, or will read it when they're good and ready.

There's some foretelling stuff in the book, you can make references like "Big Brother" or "thought criminal" and people have a better conception of where you're coming from....

But it comes nowhere close to the flavor, potency, dimension of how the police state is really unfolding. It is not going to miraculously prepare someone for it.

Stop obsessing over these depictions of dystopias when you're fucking living in one.
