Does ocean life have access to psychedelics?

I heard someone once say that we are very fortunate that dolphins evolved in an environment that is very hostile to fire. There's also the stoned ape theory of human intelligence, so I was thinking that it would make sense if the other smart mammals also had access to psychedelics. Do they just get really loaded off of our mercury?

As for a little background, there has been a lot of research on gray whales. Their vocal patterns change/evolve every 10 years and they develop regionally, so essentially you have a nice argument here for generations and culture. Octopus and squid are often used as an example of a naked mind, because they can tell mood, ovulation cycle, level of hunger, etc. What I'm getting at is that there is such a rich environment for communication that it seems like the ideas that define us (art, music, um... ideas), could very easily spread.

I thought this was interesting, so I did a search and couldn't find anything about oceanic psychedelics. Maybe if dolphins had access to drugs, they would have taken over the world by now.

I remember this documentary i saw about dolphins. Turns out they are racist. If a dolphin of the same species comes into contact with a school of another "race", they will beat up/torture/kill the other dolphin. A little off topic, but something you might find interesting.

wouldn't it be interesting if coral reefs were as psychedelic diverse as our rain forests. There's definitely a lot of poison sources. thanks for the link.

yeah I don't think so. The idea of ownership is pretty natural anyway imo.  Humans just take it farther than other animals because we can.

There may very well be. We know zip about the ocean and its plants/coral/life. Humans just havent spent thousands of years in the ocean eating random shit.

Maybe dolphins can but they choose not to because they're tripping all the time:shrug:
