Chest Pain;

For over a month now I have experienced a strange chest pain.  At first I thought it was my heart as I have never previously experienced any sort of chest pain.  I started to worry a lot as I used to abuse and smoked.  I don't do either these days, with the exception of a cigarette here and there on party nights.

I think that I have been suffering from anxiety quite a bit lately.  It's not extreme anxiety, but a mild form.  This chest pain didn't help and the more anxiety I had from the chest pain the more often it hurt.

I'm pretty convinced that it isn't my heart as the pain doesn't increase when I start exercises or decrease when I stop.  It seems that when I move my left arm around the pain will hit in random intervals in the same place in my chest.  Sometimes it feels like a burning achy feeling, and sometimes its a more sharp direct pain.  The more I play with my arm to prove to myself that it is just muscle pain, the more I focus on the pain and think that it's my heart.  It seems like there's any easy solution-to stop worrying about it.  I just can't!

I've read that chest pain/tightness can result from anxiety.

It is very annoying, unsettling, and heightens my anxiety thus increasing the pain, thus increasing my anxiety, which results in increasing pain, which leads to more anxious feelings... (see the pattern?).

Has anyone else every experienced this?
How would I go about reducing this pain or tightness of the chest?

I've been having tightness in my chest lately and I'm thinking it's definitely due to anxiety. It's the worst when I'm around my family. I've personally just been trying to focus on breathing deeply when this occurs, and exercising regularly to reduce stress.

Not often but it's been painful before, but usually when it occurs it's just very uncomfortable.

Tinglyness/Numbness in the extremities in the left arm is a sign of heart problems, and the fact that your chest hurts indicates there may be an issue. I would go to a doctor just to be sure.
