would be cool but a long ways to go by yourself.  I would probably take someone.

at least when i bailed to washington i could still meet people.  even though everyone in my course were sober virgins that have never smoked pot.  quite the change for me.  and i gave them quite the change also.

I always found it strange how much filming actually goes on in that city, as mediocre as much of it is
But I definitely dig that, its pretty simple to find work as an extra around here... there can't be an easier job out there :awesome:

Totally...that's what I've been wanting to do too...some sort of solo adventure that takes me deep through the wilderness.  I think I'm going to start directing my focus towards this.

I've also been looking for a boat shipping out of the Gulf of Mexico to crew upon...sometimes they hire newbies.  I figure it's a good way to get adventure and $$$ all in one shot.

It's pretty far in the future but you should start preparing for this as soon as possible. In my adventure, I'm planning to bring as little supplies as possible. Backpack, couple of spare changes of clothes, blanket, pillow, flashlight, whatever drugs I can forage/afford beforehand... I think I will learn from the humbling experience. That is the goal, at least, and I think 90% of the game is mental preparation.

I don't know if you've hit up Zanies before, that shop is :awebig:
Almost all of my glass and N20 has originated there
And much less awkward to walk into with another man than most sex stores hehe

I went awol just before 9 11 and I hitchiked around for a bit.  It sux unless you have a support structure. The streets are lame.  I was raisedwith a percieved  idea of hippie culture but by the time I got on the scene, all that was left was drug addcts...  If you go awol, hit the wilderness.  Just head north not south.  Mexico :tinfoil:

I'd likely go to a tropical place, but not Mexico.

Yeah, it probably does suck without a support structure, but at the same time, I really want to experience this type of extreme change one day.

I just want to be properly prepared, so that I don't crash and burn.  No limping back.

i did this about 3 mo ago.

It can be emotional torture at times, and really fun at others.
not sure how to describe it really.

i moved in with a a guy and a girl from face book. We never met before and whatnot
so its been interesting.

in the world of roomates i am the clean one.

theres easy access to any drug in miami.

I think I'm right there with you, actually, I've been planning on hopping a train this summer and riding to somewhere in Canada.

I have a partner and I do love him but I feel like he doesn't understand completely that I am a free soul and need to totally go nuts sometimes and get away in the most radical way possible.  My biggest challenge will be preparing for my AWOL adventure without informing him.  My plan is to ready myself...and then just go.  Probably by this summer.

It's weird...I have a real focus on taking care of myself and my dreams before anyone elses.  I don't even feel selfish.  It feels like the way it needs to be for my own sake.

I'm the type that can't stand to hurt anybody. Doesn't he (SO) love you? Are you really in a relationship you would feel comfortable completely abandoning the other person, forcing them to live the rest of their life not knowing what happened? If it was their fault, or what even became of you?

I'm not being an asshole here, but what i tell people who are thinking of suicide kinda applies here. Even if it doesn't seem like anyone cares about you, when you're gone someone will be missing you. Even if they don't want to admit it.

It wouldn't be forever, but I feel like I need the solo experience, where I have absolutely nobody around to draw upon for support or energy.  Yes, he loves me, but I've been telling him I want to do this for years, so he shouldn't be so surprised.

I think I would be comfortable with leaving him behind because I have my own life to lead, and he does know how I've always wanted to do this.

Basically I would take off without a word (maybe a note) but it would be a few weeks before I would be comfortable telling people where I am.

Yeah I'm definitely someone with the wanderlust, too. But when i decided to drive to the Badlands and lay on a hot rock in the middle of the desert just to get the right atmosphere for my mescaline kicks and spend a few days in solitary meditation I perfer people to know I'm okay so they send help if I do not report in.

Take rugged GPS solution with topo data. I have a solar cell that charges mine in a day that weighs < 1lb. Take charged old-school two-band prepaid phone turned off so if you ever need it you can turn it on. Bring a good knife, something that can open cans reliably, and identification should you end up dead so they know who you were (I like dog tags :P) uhhh... what else- A vehicle, and the money for fuel or a plan to generate money and an idea as of where to drop anchor. I like to stay at free public camp sites.

You want the clothes on your back to be rugged. Wear trekking and outdoor gear if that's what you're gonna do. You'll have a much easier time. I carry a flint & steel, and lighter, usually some lighter fluid.

Of course my type of wandering is more road-trip based with sorties into the wilderness (North Dakota was BEAUTIFUL) that last just a few days. I have a tent that I can carry with my pack really easy and I've had no problem hiking miles in a day and hiking multiple days out and then back to see cool natural phenomena from great locations.

Take a book, something you can read hundreds of times.

If you're going to take psychedelic drugs use them with experience.

Hiking pack >>> bookbag. I also carry a small single-compartment corduroy Jansport bag for stuff I get at constantly, usually food. It's convenient to have a small, seperate bag to suspend food in if you're in the woods for the night.

Hiking packs also have this thing where the back has a hard palate that extends to your lower back and provides extra support taking the weight off your back with a hip-strap or somesuch setup. It's huuuuge difference for how little added weight.

Just random thoughts. I've done a lot of crazy trips, a few of which ended up lasting months instead of weeks.

you don't need any mental preparation unless you have a specific goal.

just start moving and then do what makes sense.

You know how many completely fucked up drug addict drunks travel around the country all the time and still manage to live, eat AND stay high?

mothra i've been rooting for you for years to find your adventure that you never come back from.  In the good way.

I know you have Kimbo.  I appreciate you so much for this!!

It's coming.  I'm in Texas again and my tolerance for "traditional lifestyles" after street-sleeping in San Diego for four months is woefully low.

I feel like I need to break free in the worst way and that when I do, it'll be the best thing for me.

Your adventure in cali sounded wonderful.  Find your hustle,  I know two people that went down there and lived for a couple months just selling drawings and wire wrap jewlery.

I can't find a goal and don't know what my adventure is.  I wish someone would snag me and take me away, force me to realize it.  I tried once, ran away to Portland but ended up relying on money too much and clinging to my 'things'.

:frown:

MOTH if you do this, I wish you the best of luck, still communicate but dont' get attached to things that bind you to a single place.  A giant ass water cooled PC binds you to places. ;P
