Farmers Markets! (and green juices)
    #13414384 -

for quite some time i have been getting all my vegetable from them. last week however, i underestimated and found myself buying from the grocery store/produce stand for the last few days. i always knew i was getting some fresh stuff at that market, but i didnt actually realize the magnitude of difference.

when i was at the first grocery store i went to, i was so unimpressed by their rubbery celery and squishy cucumbers i went to another. it was the same deal there too! so then i try a produce stand, and while still unimpressed with their goods, they seemed semi better than the stores had. so i bought some things to tide me until sunday.

so then i made some green juice as usual. and was rather disappointed with it. it came out a dull green, unlike the dark stuff i would have usually gotten from the particular combos i made. and as far as taste goes, i found it really weak. it was more like vegetable water, and nothing like the flavor or sweetness i am accustomed to. i will admit that i did catch a little bit of a buzz from it, but it took over 50 ounces to accomplish anything noticeable. i usually get a nice high from alot less!

so today was market day, and after looking over my goods, and drinking some "fresh" juice. there is no comparison whatsoever! i will swear by them from now on! so i took a pic of todays haul.

todays juice consisted of celery, cilantro, kale, carrot, and carrot tops.
(now thats how that juice should look!)
oh yeah, i picked up a few apples too!
(these guys are so damn crispy! about as good as the can get aside from actually pickin right off the tree!)

the bottom line is that anyone who buys produce, and has not checked into local farmers markets yet, really should.
the particular vendor i go to dosent use any pesticides, and always picks the stuff the day right before market, and its pretty cheap too!

That all looks fantastic awakenedone. This has definitely encouraged me to go to some more local farmers markets for produce.

I really want to make tons of vegetable soup and can it so i can have healthy meals on the go every day. I need to get a juicer too... Which one do you have and do you like it?

I hope i can find some good locally grown suppliers because i would love to not have to step foot in another walmart type grocer again!

i have the Breville 800jexl. and it is a beast! 1 horsepower, and stainless steel! cleaning it is a breeze. especially if you got a garden hose. i love it! Breville makes great juicers period!

the one and only downside of this juicer to me, is that its a centrifugal (spinning basket type). those are perfectly fine for fruits and vegetables however i love some fresh wheatgrass juice, and those require a masticating type juicer. but if you aint into wheatgrass it wont matter to you.

if this thread inspires 1 person, that would be awsome! :thumbup:i was buzzin off juice when i wrote it, and it just flowed out of me spontaneously.

keep in mind that its very difficult to stick with green juices on a regular basis if you give your body any kinds of sweet, salty, and greasy foods. they make green juice very unappealing IME.
im at the point where adding carrots to a juice is like straight sugar! now my body craves only the good stuff

I disagree. I eat a varied diet, and in moderation even eat shitty foods. And green smoothies are awesome for me, the greens really bring out the taste and aromatics of the fruits.

Green is good for everyone!

yeah im sure many people could do it that way. i personally just find it really hard to do green juices especially if i eat sweet foods. i will really want to do a juice because its good for me, but my bodys like "not right now, some other time. but how bout some more of that sweet shit!"

Can anyone recomend a good masticating juicer? and what kind of price should I expect to pay?
I also like to juice (need to get back in to it really) I currently have one of the Jck LLn power juicers, it is a bit wastefull in my eyes.
