MSG?
    #5532036 - 04/19/06 12:28 AM (17 years, 9 months ago)

I've been paying attention (at least i thought i was) to the food ive been eating.  cutting out pretty much all dairy and sweets, trying to eat more vegetables and whole grains / etc.

anyways, last time i went shopping i grabbed a few cans of "seasoned" vegetables.  After looking at the back to make sure sugar / syrup was not one of the main ingredients, I threw it in the cart.  That was a while ago.

recently, the kitchen has been a little bare, so i figured.. fuck it.. good time to make some canned veggies, right?  so i cooked them up with some rice, and munched away.  Now as soon as I finished a bowl, I didn't feel right, but figured I just needed to lay down, long story short: I got sick multiple times, and really had no idea why.  I never get sick (vomit), so this really freaked me out

anyways i go back into the trash to check the ingredients again..  ingredient #1 beans, ingredient #2 MSG.  I am guessing thats the culprit.  And for MSG to be the #2 ingredient means there was a LOT of that shit in there.  anyways, just wondering if anyone here has gotten sick off MSG before, or maybe it was something else?

Mono-sodium Glutamate is a powerful flavor enhancer that has some strange side effects on some people.
I've never known anyone to vomit from it, but I suppose it's possible (probable in your case).
It usually just causes some discomfort and drowsiness along with an inability to concentrate.
Apparently you are hyper-sensitive to it. Be very careful ordering Chinese food. They use it by the pound.

Canned veggies suck. All the nutrients get diluted into the liquid.

Get some real veggies. I like to get real carrots (not the baby ones), bellpeppers, and tomatoes. Mmm mmm. =) That's raw.

For cooking I like brocolli and green beans and asparagus and squash.

in all fairness i have no idea that it was the MSG that made me sick, could have just been the shitty vegetables, but I was surprised to see MSG as such an essential ingredient.

It's hard to avoid MSG these days, since it can be put it food without having to be labeled, or it can go by other names too.

Something that gives me headaches is bad.

I have never eaten anything healthy that gave he a headache (except brain freezing on frozen fruit heavy smoothies).

"A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'Universe'; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.

This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest us.

Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty.

Nobody is able to achieve this completely but striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security."

It is very hard to avoid it these days for sure.  I've steered clear of it for a few years now, and have noticed quite a difference. Main one being boners that last longer than 3 minutes. Now I can go and go and go and go. Its like being 18 again.

And I can tell when it's been slipped into something I ate, every time.  The ears start ringing and I get headaches and lethargic.

A lot of the chink-slop houses have done away with it, but I still ask every time I go.

I would worry much more about the BPA in nearly every canned food you buy, before worrying about the MSG.  The MSG can be avoided if you read the labels, but even organic canned foods use cans with BPA.  Further, even a couple organic food companies that advertise BPA free cans still have BPA in the food because many things get canned straight from the growers such as tomatoes.  Pretty much any form of tomato in a jar or can will have BPA in it.  Even the FDA says BPA is unsafe and sets fairly low levels as the upper safe intake limit so that should tell you something.

Things like msg. citric acid.. it's like eating plastic. it's like filling your body with insoluble waste. and low vibes.

they put msg in everything. I was pissed when I finally looked at the back of a bag of beef jerkey a couple months ago.
