If they look like chinese lanterns I tend to ignore them. My interest is in helping get this phenomena out of the media bullshit and into the realm of science. For that reason I focus on cases that are close encounters or have multiple forms of corroborating evidence.

People often accuse researchers like myself as misidentifying balloons / chinese lanterns which is why I stay away from such cases. You could spend all day debating if its a balloon or unidentified but it does nothing to help the credibility of the phenomena. To get the world to realize and more scientists to take it seriously we need to focus on the thousands of serious cases that have hard data to back them up.
