first time grower...[edited]grow log? WHAT STRAIN...I THINK NOT PE...any ideas?
    #13344424 -

heres an update on PE brf cakes. showing best one because other 4 were just put in 5 days ago and this one has been going for 13 days. Is it normal to only have pinsets on bottom of cake...first time growin n i didnt say first attempt. lol. any feedback would be nice. thanx.

****ADDITIONAL QUESTION: Why cant you lay cakes on the sides because i was informed that gravity keeps water down. So with the cakes being shorter if layed on their sides compared to standing up right, would behove them, correct?. Has any one experimented with this?[My wife has to be credited with this question...its all her]

and the bluish/green is bruising from pickin it up...ill leave it alone. just anxious...my bad.

i think the water gets down by gravity. so at the bottom there will be the most available.

looks good so far

There could be another reason as well. Perhaps your jars were slow colonizers. Are the bottoms (where the pins are) initially the top when you inoculated?

I've seen tall jars colonize slowwly top down, actually begin to form pins up top before the bottom is even colonized.

yes they were the top. did i set my cake the wrong way initially then?
and with this specific cake, when i birthed it, the center of the cake at the top, which is now the bottom, was not colonized. i waited my consolidation week(5 days not full 7). so, it was an uncolonized cone shape in center and now its fuzzy as heck.

you can lay cakes on their sides.
gravity is not the reason your pins are on the bottom of your cake
the microclimate is just better between the cake and the foil.

what fruiting chamber are you using. and is it built correctly

Shotgun and yes on all 6 sides 2" apart with 4 1/2 in. of perlite. i have it raised off the ground about 4 ft. and have it in front of a window along with a 6500 daylight bulb. i couldnt seem to keep humidity up so i put a hose hooked up to an ultrasonic humidifier and turn it on for 4 hrs. every few days or as needed to keep my humidity up. thats the only thing different.

Next attempt, when using those tall jars, Perhaps use a bit less water, coarser vermiculite or BRF. This allows for faster colonization as the space between is larger allowing for Myc to travel faster.

I made this mistake on the jars I have currently colonizing. On my .75pt jars, the bottoms still haven't finished colonizing, And I already have pins at the top... I used a little too much water and the extra height on the jars end up compacting the substrate at the bottom.. making it very difficult for the myc.

Jars that colonize/consolidate all at the same time, may have more regular pinning... though they may still tend to pin towards wherever the micro-climate is best (AKA down by the foil)

I fruit my cakes on grates, I often get 360deg pinning... And this can be annoying at times. I often flip cakes up/down/side trying to keep all the pins above the grate. Once they are fully fruiting the mushrooms themselves will grow upwards.

Just let your cakes do their thing. Its obviously working. Thats an amazing amount of pins... And I always hear how its difficult to fruit PE on cakes.

And clone one of those fruit in the cluster. once you have verified it looks like PE.

really doesnt matter ... your cakes only have enough recognized nutrients per flush to put out what it would anyway ... 180 degrees of bigger ones vs 360 of smaller ones etc etc ... the fae intentions i understand , but that burden should fall on your fc and not the placement of the cake ...

Hey Lakotis, The fruits in the picture of 3 cakes..the cake on the right with all the fruits..the caps have a wavyness to them, i have some that are like that as well. What is it from?? Not yet mature? too much moisture/too little moisture? Will they smooth out as they open more, or did you pick them like that??

Here is that cake just seconds before harvest.. maybe 12-18 hours after 3 cake pics.

I think I over-watered my cakes severely. Or perhaps too much water early in pin development. Its almost impossible to over-water cakes once fruit is rapidly growing.

That or genetics... I had some really funky cakes that first time around... seriously they would fruit a week+ apart, and sporadic. some cakes 3 mushroom 1 just massive, one 2 mushrooms and thats it, This one here was the only cake that grow, that flushed in a cluster.

I did, I had the impression much of the time that I was over-watering them.

They'll probably get a good 20-34feet and will break their veils on the night of the 3rd rain of the month, provided it's a full moon that evening, Radiohead must also be playing in the background, but nothing prior to Ok Computer.

In all honesty they'll get as big as they can and they'll break their veils when they want to.

They ARE PE. i ordered from freespores.com and after i inoculated i put label right on the jars, so i know they are PE. unless, the freespores people mixed em up but i highly doubt it! but thank you for your concern. i inoculated 5 jars of PE and 5 jars of A+. the A+ syringe was contam. so only PE took off....
