Brain hurting Naptha question
    #13252346 -

Looking at various dmt tek's I have come to find one through erowid, stating naptha as the non-polar solvent to get what you don't want out of your solution and to trash this naptha layer.

Now the Marsofold tek explains a naptha extraction in which you keep the naptha extraction.

My dilemna is one tek tells me that naptha gets the shit out, in another tek it tells me naptha gets the good out. Well which is it. Sure would hate to extract the shitty part of my dmt.... Thanks experienced Shroomerites

In the erowid extraction they first turn the alkaloids into salts and that could change what it is soluble in. Normal crude extraction can be done by just mixing the plant matter with naptha and letting it sit for a few hours. Drain it into a dish and let the naptha evaporate and presto! DMT crystals.

Erowid is the only site saying get rid of the naptha. all other extractions want you to save and freeze obviously. I'm beginning to think its just a typo as I try to rap my mind around the chemistry allowing naptha to be used to extract the good, and the bad.

This tek needs to be removed. i don't think throwing the naptha away is a good idea.....

" This may take ~24 hours (48 in some cases.)  The oils and fats will migrate into the non-polar solvent layer leaving our alkaloids in the aqueous solution.  Since we are using naphtha, the solvent layer will rise to the top of Jar B.  Using a pipette (or turkey baster) remove the solvent layer and discard."

I read the tek, and this is what I think is going on:
Naptha will extract NON-POLAR molecules. When DMT is in an acidic solution, it is polar. The fats and other junk will be in the naptha, which you discard (end of step 6). The DMT will still be in the aqueous solution.

When DMT is in a basic solution, it becomes non-polar. This means when naptha is added again (Step 7), it will migrate to the naptha, which is what you keep.

Does that make sense?

the sodium hydroxide converts the DMT in the plant to freebase so that the warm naptha can extract it.

It is the naptha that will contain the dmt.

The defatting in the second link is the one involving the naptha in which you discard this naptha layer. The marsofold tek is the one that says you keep this top layer in this NON polar extraction.

Did you not understand what these people are saying? You're confusing two different steps.

You defat before you basify the solution. DMT in it's salt form is not soluble in naphtha so only the plant fats will be pulled. After you basify the solution the DMT freebase will be soluble in naphtha.

The marsofold tek does not contain a defat step because it is not needed when extracting from MHRB.

Follow the marsofold word for word and you will be fine. QT's tek is way out of date don't even read that shit because it's obviously confusing you.

ITS BECAUSE IN EACH TEK, MARSOFOLD AND THE EROWID, ONE USES NAPTHA FIRST AND THE OTHER USES LYE FIRST this is what threw me off. still trying to work out the chemistry in my head. Kinda thinking this whole molecule thing is like an series circuit i can turn on and off.

I believe it is because of this lye, the ingredient which can change this acid to a base, which makes the naptha suck it up being non polar like you said Green_T. Am i on track? Damn this Headband is good shit 8)

Now the erowid tek, because the "DMT" hasn't been switched to Non polar yet It is still polar, making the "SHIT" non Polar so NAPTHA IS USED BEFORE THE LYE TO SUCK UP THE SHIT. Its the order of the two that changes?

DO i have this concept down? If so. Which method usually is more succesful evaporating that remaining naptha with the first tek?? OR using the naptha first before the lye to suck out the bad shit first and then React the lye with it to base it. Thanks for your assistance

Thanks fractal dust i think i got it. I figured id use marsofold anyway with its easier process and seemingly higher usage rate and success. much appreciated. 8 )
