Bamboo Plants

Myself and and a friend like having the Bamboo plants as we do other plants.  The problem is after about 4 months they turn yellow then eventually die.  I kept mine in the original ceramic container(small) it comes in with the rocks and kept the water level on high as directed.  Mine had 3 bamboo stalks growing out of this small ceramic container. 
My question is should I have transplanted the bamboo to a larger more spacious container?  What are the basics for carring for bamboo plants?
any advice is really appreciated as I would love to keep these guys around!!!

Two of the most common factors are 1.) too much direct sunlight; and 2.) too salty or heavily-fluoridated tap water. Give your new Lucky Bamboo a thriving start be sure to keep it away from direct sunlight, and water only with filtered or natural spring water.

I dont even keep mine in rocks i just keep a small 3 inch x 3 inch vase filled half way up with water. They do great i even cut a shoot off and rooted it. I also let the water sit out for a day or two before i change it. It gets like no direct sunlight at all and is doing great :thumbup:

I see, I was the opposite in giving it a lot of sunlight...alright, well there is still a survivor so Ima take the rocks out, and I have a Charcoal filter for water, do you think that would be sufficient enough for the Bamboo water, and changing it out everyday also-should I be doing that too???  Either Way thanks for the advice Cactusdan and Playtime...much appreciated....!!!:super::cheers:

OH MY GODS! THATS IT! My I took such good care of mine and it just died too, but our tap water is hard as fuck! That musta been what killed it!!

I havent gotten another one since cause I was so sure I was giving the best care I could that I thought my green thumb just went brown when it came to bamboo!

I would just like to point out that Lucky Bamboo isn't bamboo, it's Dracaena sanderiana.  It's not even native to Asia.

havent had issues with tap water and my "bamboo"..and we tend to find a fair amount of bodies in our supply...

not everyone's flat is the same..if you live with less light,less watering for the bamboo..i have a fairly large amount of light in the room,only direct light is during sunset,and they grow tall beautiful leaves like beastly plants.

i water twice per week,havent had any difference since switching to tap water 5 months ago

There is a asian gift shop in the local mall here that sells the lucky bamboo.  They sell these little bead like things too that swell when they are soaked in water so you can use them instead of rocks.  Even the common red edged draceana doesn't handle hard or chlorinated water well.
