I'm in favor of it if Ythan wants to code it.  Next step would be autoignoring members of particular ages and nationalities. Then comes ignoring people who have a specific forum in their top five of most posted forums.  Or people who use a particular meme or word a lot.

I'm in favor of all of that if there is public demand for it, but wouldnt use any of them myself.

I believe in an unfiltered Shroomery experience and oldfashioned ignoring of obnoxious people with your mind rather than a button click, save for application of common sense and necessary rules. But, I won't push that view on people. If the people want filters, let there be filters in all colors of the rainbow.

If you are ignoring a rabidly obnoxious asshole with your mind, you are learning a life skill useful on the job and in your personal life, a life skill in fact strongly advocated by oldschool OTD. If you ignore people with a button click you are creating a sheltered protected environment for yourself, and not taking the Shroomery as it is in allm its brutal honesty.

OTD used to be all about "DEAL WITH IT" now its all about nagging Ythan to code novel ways to enable you to not deal with it.

The reason he gave was a good one.

I don't know if you remember, but we used to have a member named theshiftingwalls. This dude was pretty unstable mentally. He made a puppet account (that had a lot of posts) and pm'd me about meeting up. I had no idea it was him. I invited him over, don't want to get into details but it was fucked. Went back and read the guys posts and it was pretty obvious it was Luke (theshiftingwallls) with a different name. If I had adopted doc_T's policy, it's possible (possible not guaranteed) I would have had him on ignore, and that day never would have happened. It's my fault for not checking all of his posting history (the guy seemed normal at times, so the quick check that I did seemed ok) but I probably did at one point see a warning sign in his post, because I don't document it anywhere though I lost track by the time he pm'd me wanting to meet.
