Singlehood becoming the new norm
    #13170566 -

I don't know if I'm rationalizing my lack of 'love' type relationships or even desire for it but I feel like single hood is becoming the new norm in the 21st century.  It is still a social status symbol in some groups of course but I feel that the younger generation or at least a big part of it doesn't care much to get married or at least to rush it anytime soon.

Can we expect to see marriages to die out more overtime?  Do you think it still dominates a majority?    :pipesmoke:

Oh yeah, I also should mention that I definitely think religion plays a big role in marriage too..... In the religious communities some view it almost as if you have to get married and preferably in your 20's cause premarital sex is forbidden :crazy2:

people are starting to realize that marriage isnt really that much of a committment anymore. half of marriages end in divorce. so how is that different from just dating someone? i mean flip a coin, heads we stay togethr forever, tails we move on. and i think the younger generation realizes this, bc they were raised in broken homes where marriage didnt work. and then like you said, a lot of it is religious pressure, which thankfully this country is starting to take that huge shit and expel their supernatural beliefs. i got married when i was 18. divorced by 19. i knew it wassnt gonna last before i even did it. but it had some benefits to it at the time. but ill never do it again.

Not the norm at all.  The vast majority will marry.

When I was 21 and graduating college, few (if any) of my male friends were married.

At 31, the majority are married and/or engaged, more so for females.

There is no sign of the trend changing and/or reversing.

I almost got married when I was 19, thank god that I didn't.

There has to be a god, and he has to be good, just look at me.

I've seen people confuse prisons for a bed & breakfast. use the one call of voice mail to see who left a message.

Most are simply delusional to what relationships are and especially long term ones. Hurt and bitter they bring everyone else down.

Here I thought relationships were the union of to distinct individuals and not a status of the self.

You're always "single". You're always alone, that is the nature of western culture and humanity as a whole.

Independence is always a positive trait no matter what culture. Sometimes you can get a lot more done by working through a group of people but that does not hinder your independence, if anything it strengthens it if you use such a social network as a boost to your life and not a crutch that solves all your problems.

Marriage the way we know it today is a group of tax breaks. Women coming with a dowry or men giving a ring to women is all about marriage being a transaction instead of a bond of love. If two people love each other will marriage strengthen that love? How? If they love each other and don't leave each other even though they are not married then that is an example of how strong their love is. If they love each other and don't leave each other if they are married that type of example means little because the legal headache is the real reason they don't leave. It undermines love and may make even a truly loving couple get uncomfortable of each other because you don't know if its the legal bond or the love bond that keeps you together.
