Pins before completely colonization?
    #1309687 - 02/15/03 09:28 AM (21 years, 1 month ago)

My buddy has a few PF BRF jars. A couple are pinning but they're not fully colonized yet. He know's why they're doing this (messed up the mixture), but he want's to know what to do. Does he just birth the cakes anyways, wait until they colonize while the pins continue to grow, or cut away the slower parts of the cake? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

The reason for premature birth is not due to substrate complications. The jars were exposed to way too much light. I would take the jars and case the colonized substrate aftaer picking the pins.

my cat mittens tells me that you should definatly make sure you clean off the uncolonized part, lest some other fungi takes a likeing to the brf.
