Simple question about colonizing the substrate
    #1267487 - 02/01/03 09:12 AM (18 years, 10 months ago)

I was talking with a friend who has grown before. He stressed that the substrate must be colonized in a dark, humid, 84-86F location. In other words, a highly-controlled environment. On the PF Tek and the MMGG, it just says to place them in a dark place and wait. How important are environmental conditions during colonization?

Sorry if this seems like an easy question. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

peace,
tim.

The optimum incubation temperature is 86 degrees. Variations from the optimum will result in slower growth. Humidity is not important during incubation. Darkness prevents the mycelium from pinning prematurely.

you dont have to worry about humidity....it should take care of itself.

Temp is pretty important to the speed at which the myc* will colonize the substrate..... a jar colonizing at 86F will colonize A LOT faster than a jar colonizing at anything under 80.

Darkness is also important because if the myc* was introduced to light, then it might start to pin prematurely (which is a bad thing).

hope this helps

Zed

the stuff will colonized at lower temps, but most people use the optimums because they want to be as efficient as possible.

check out the FAQ fro almost any question u could possible have.
