Sporeworks v4.0 up and running - many changes, more details!

Howdy all!

We're very excited to announced the release of Sporeworks.com v4.0! This is the fourth major upgrade to the Sporeworks.com website in our 11+ years of providing rare and exotic mushroom spores and cultures. Please take a minute to read about the changes and features our new web store has to offer.

First things first: where are all the bags, agar products, etc? Looking for the other items? Well, as part of our strategy to continue supplying our customers with quality rare and exotic spores and cultures, Spore Works is now focusing all our efforts on the maintenance and expansion of our Spores for Micrscopy and Specialty Mushroom Cultures. As a result we will no longer be offering substrate bags, laboratory supplies and culturing media, pressure cookers or sterilizers, mushroom books, etc.

These products can all be purchased through our friends at Everything Mushrooms. These folks know what they are doing, provide quick and efficient service, and we've been doing business with them for years. Please visit everythingmushrooms.com for your gourmet and specialty mushroom culturing and cultivation supplies.

Sporeworks.com v4.0 will offer our customers several key features:

1. Real time shipping estimates and accurate shipping charges. No more "Other Carriers" option for international customers, and when applicable you'll be able to choose flat rate envelopes or first class postage. All available options for shipping the items in your cart will be listed during the one page checkout, so you can choose the shipping method you desire without any additional steps.

2. Better inventory management. We should be able to manage our available inventory on a more constant basis, so the likelihood of ordering a product only to find it is later "backordered" will be greatly diminished.

3. Easier product browsing. The new web store was designed to have intuitive product browsing and categorization, so finding different spore samples, and seeing what is available should be much easier.

4. Bulk pricing discounts. When available, each product is setup to present bulk pricing or "wholesale" purchasing options. These prices are available to all customers, no special account or previous contact required. Do you need 50 spore syringes of Psilocybe cubensis: B+ strain? We can now make that happen directly through our website without you ever having to call to get "special pricing." You'll see these bulk pricing breaks displayed on the product pages for which they are available.

5. Periodic sales and specials. We'll no longer be holding "monthly specials." Instead we now have a section of our store dedicated to "sales and specials." This section will be updated on an ongoing and random basis. As a result, you'll want to check this section frequently to take advantage of overstock sales, special discounts, and random promotions. To get things started, we're knocking $5 off our very popular Psilocybe cubensis : Penis Envy Spore Syringe Microscopy Kits!

These are just the key features of the new store, but there are many other great things that come with this new upgrade. As always, and especially now we welcome your feedback and suggestions!

Sporeworks has always been awesome, I never noticed anything that needed to be improved.

Edit: The new spore/print/syringe page layouts are quit a bit better! and i'm not minding the prices on the prints either. Great job!!

Honestly, the prices have not changed one bit. The major difference is that now the spore prints and spore syringes are actually different products, rather than being variations of the same product. (not sure if that makes sense in ecommerce speak).

Example: on old Sporeworks Site... if you wanted a B+ spore print, you had to go to the B+ spore page, which listed the default spore syringe price at $17, but if you wanted a print... you had to choose that "option" from a drop down box, and viola the print price would be displayed at $23. Now the prints and syringes are actually different products so this avoid confusion and displays the prices more accurately and appropriately.

In the long run this is a good thing and should lead to less confusion or mistakes on our part, or the customers, as to what type of material they wish to secure. With the old way products were listed it was also very hard to tell which spore types were available as spore prints and which types were available as spore syringes... this new system should solve all that.

I know this doesn't display on the main page, but it was put on the "Checkout" page:

Please Note: All accounts created prior to August 2010 have expired and must be recreated. We regret any inconvenience.

Essentially the upgrade was significant enough that we were unable to keep the old user database in tact. Unfortunately this means you'll have to make a new account if you want to have one (again, this is NOT required to place an order with us). Many customers had difficulty with the old user account system, not recognizing certain characters or passwords... but this new system should not have those troubles and be much more user friendly.

I have used Sporeworks numerous times over the years and have never had anything but great results.  I haven't had any of their products come contaminated ever.  The customer service is always friendly and helpful, the shipping is fast, and the products are quality.  I also like the fact that they have stayed that way from the very beginning, or at least the 8+ years I have used their website. :thumbup:
