Is shroomery fucking up my computer?

Hey guys,

I mean this with no offense but I'm having problems with my computer just since I have joined your site and visit it regularly.
My computer has run for several months without big problems, I use CCleaner and Antivir regularly after surfing.
But now right during the time I am on this forum I noticed big increase of buffering time and the average speed went down tremendously. Could be it comes from something els, could be my google chrome is degenerating somehow.
But it could also be that your website is spiting worms and root kits and what's happening with my computer is really pissing me off right now.

What's your computer spec like?

You could try tuning off signatures? More and more are animated so might be putting strain on your CPU, if old...

No, you're an idiot.  Try doing some troubleshooting.  Uninstall your browser, try firefox.  Rule out hardware issues.  Basic stuff like that.

Please forgive the derogatory responses, this forum is kind of a free-for-all. You'd probably have better luck posting this in Science and Technology. Anyway, web sites do have the ability to impact your computer's performance, but only while you have them open. So an easy way to narrow this down would be to observe if the problems only occur while you're actively browsing the Shroomery. If so, you might try disabling signatures as someone suggested, and also disable avatars and lower the number of posts per page. But a more permanent solution would be to add RAM to your computer.

I suspect it might just be a coincidence though. Hit Ctrl-Shift-Esc to bring up task manager. If you're using Vista or later, click the button to show tasks from all users. Then click 'View | Select Columns' and select 'CPU Time' and 'Peak Memory Usage'. Look for processes with abnormally high values in those two columns. Those are what you want to investigate.
