First time shroom hunting in sw fl

Hey guys new to the boards, but have been reading up quite a bit. Late last night I went out to a local cow pasture a friend owns and tried to find some actives as it's rainy season here in southwest fl. There were plently of fresh cow patties out there, but to my supprize only found three mushrooms growing straight out the middle of a few turds.
I flicked them to spread the spores, then picked them and checked to see if they bruised. They were brownish/white looking with long stems, and turned a bit blueish underneath the cap after I flicked them. I'm shocked I only found a few though, am I looking at the wrong time or something?

Thats why its called hunting :smirk:

If the three fungi you found were your target species and this is your first hunt it sounds like you did better than most. Unfortunately not every cow pie in Florida blossoms with beautiful Cubensis every time it rains.

I hear all these people telling me how they find garbage bags full of them blah blahh blahhh, so I thought maybe i was going at the wrong time or something. To my understanding after a good rain and some sunshine they should be sprouting? Probably shouldn't have, but after looking them up online I decided to eat two caps in the field and got a little body high off them.

very bad idea... take pix, sporeprint, ask opinions, thats a good way to kill yourself in an excruciating manner, there are old mushroom hunters, and bold mushroom hunters, but no old bold mushroom hunters

Maybe, but to be completely honest, it is only excruciating for 7 to 10 days, until you die, so it was a good chance to take! :rolleyes:

Reminds me of the kid who choked himself to death while jerking off because it was "a good chance to take"

I did have a friend with me who has gathered shrooms many times, and he said it was a safe one to eat. Do poisonous ones grow straight out the middle of the cow pies too?!? I need to check up on my laws as well about having them in your possion...
