Trip Intensifiers - lets build a list * 1

Hey peoples, I'm looking to compile a list of substances that intensify the effects of shrooms.

What kind of over the counter drugs, foods, or restricted drugs work to potentiate the effects of shrooms?


Two things come to my mind. First, a friend told me that grapefruit juice increases absorbtion and/or helps the drug cross the blood-brain barrier. Anyone know if their is any truth to this? Secondly, chocolate and yohimbe (an otc supplement) are supposed to be mild MAOIs - which supposedly potentiate the effects of shrooms.

Any comments on these?

The grapefruit juice thing is supposidly real, but the only time I tested it was when I drank a lot of beer and soda as well as smoked a lot of weed.

As far as other trip enhancers, I feel that a strobelight is a great tool.

Marijuana will always be the number one trip enhancing tool in my book..  :smirk:

BTW, I don't believe chocolate is an MAOI. It's one of the things you are supposed to avoid in large amounts while using an MAOI as it can cause a reaction.

The only MAOI that I have experience with is Syrian Rue (Peganum Harmala), and that certainly does the trick.

You may be correct. However, other MAOIs are Contraindicated when taking prescription MAOIs - perhaps this is one reason why chocolate is supposed to be avoided.

Ok, the best one I know of-

Syrian Rue ( Peganum Harmala ) 3 grams of dried powdered seeds used to make a tea and consumed 20 minutes before the mushrooms. It's a very strong MAOI.

This will A; change the whole quality of the experience, ( a bit more ayahuasca-flavored than plain psilocybin) and B; kick your ass, if you aren't well prepared for it. You'll be tripping for 8 hours and about 4 of those are the 'peak'. Make sure you will have somewhere quiet and private to go lie down if necessary.

Also requires a restricted diet for a day beforehand.

note- it's not sold at stores as a herbal supplement. I believe it is a legal substance but can't be sold for human consumption. You can get it from various internet-based suppliers.

Syrian Rue is a seed containing harmine/harmaline. It can be found being sold by numerous retailers online for very little cost. If I remember correctly, I bought 2 oz's of it for around $5.00..

B. Caapi the traditional harmine/harmaline-containing vine used in ayahuasca should also work, though I haven't heard of people combining this with mushrooms often.
It is a lot more expensive than the Rue.

Yellow jackets aren't shit.

Grapefruit juice DOES work too. Taken about an hour before any of the following drugs, it will greatly increase the strength of the effects: benzos, amphetamines, and opiates. Check the FAQ forum for more info.

In my experience with ayahuasca though, it requires alot more of this plant to get the desired effect as opposed to just using the Syrian Rue seeds which as you said only requires a dosage of about 3-6 grams. That's basically why it is as popular as it is when using it to brew ayahuasca. The Rue does have quite a body load that comes with it, and I've noticed it can often induce a pre-mature purge in some people when drinking the brew.

That's not exactly true. It only takes about 3 hours for your body to get rid of tyramine. I once ate a huge papa murphy's pizza with a bunch of cheeze and peparonie, then I ate ayahuaska 3 hours later and had no problems.

Taking a vitamin C supplement with your dose will always perk it up, make the trip come on quicker and be a little more strong. This is the same basis as taking your shrooms with Orange Juice, or Grapefruit juice, those both have high vitamin C content.

Ok, you're probably right-
In fact I think a recent study was saying that harmala is selective for the type of MAO in the brain over the type in the stomach, and so the "MAOI diet" may not even be necessary at all. I've pushed the rules a little myself with no ill effects. The worst you're likely to get is a headache afterwards, unless you do something really stupid like eating 5 ephedra pills and washing it down with a bottle of wine...

But- I think it's just a matter of 'better safe than sorry' to not eat any tyramine foods the day of your trip, and to eat as lightly as possible when you do. Because after enough times someone's going to be hypersensitive, and eat a pepperoni pizza & a beer, and have a simultaneous stroke and heart attack and bleeding from their eyes etc. etc. and die and get on a CBS special...

If you guys could, please list how much you think a substance enhances a trip. While I may be able to take MAOIs and increase twofold, maybe Marijuana will only increase it by like 20% or so.
