Cubes versus azurescens?
    #1293198 - 02/09/03 09:17 AM (21 years, 11 days ago)

Hello I am rather curious as to why people mostly buy cubensis when most sites seem to show that there is more psilocybin and psilocin content in the azurescens and cyanescens. So my question is, is it just harder to grow those? Or am I missing some fact here that would explain this.

having only grown cubes, i do not speak from experience:

pan cyans easy indoors, potent but v. low yield
ps. cyans / azures must be grown outside

Azures tend to be much harder to grow than your typical cubes.

I've tried both on numerous occasions. I must agree that azures, when it comes to overall effects and tripping experience, is far superior to cubes.

Well I guess I'll stick to cubes since this is my first time growing, and I cant seem to find a syringe for azurescens.

I forgot to ask what makes it so much harder. If its nothing too hard I think I can handle it. But what makes it so much harder?

You have to learn how to do agar plates to grow Azures.

Azure sporeprints aren't sterile enough to make syringes because they all come from outside.

Not necessarily true as you can germinate wild prints on cardboard alone which is selective.
Agar helps with most wild prints as it enables you to isolate contaminants.
Cubensis are not even a third as potent as Ps.Azurescens, but these are harder to fruit and require specific parameters that are hard to produce stably indoors. Outdoors they can be grown quite easily if your bed likes the conditions, but this is seasonal and yields are generally less than ps.cyanescens, ps.subaeruginosa, etc.
Cubensis is easy to grow in bulk amounts as it will fruit under any conditions - people just substitute mass for potency.
panaeolus cyanescens are not 'easy' to grow indoors - they do require specific temps for fruiting, specific humidity and have weak mycelia.
Unlike cubensis, with pans there is less margin for error.
