New pachanoi monstrose + Question about pot size :)
    #12904657 -

Hello everyone,

I just got my new Pachanoi monstrose and I'm very excited to get it settled in its new home. Its about 8 1/2 inches from the bottom of the yellow part to the top, 3 inch across, and was in a 6 inch pot before it got shipped bare root. I would like it to grow really big quickly but I would like to avoid rot. What is the biggest size pot would you all recommend putting it in? Also should I disturb the roots at the bottom at all or just plant it and let it adjust to its new pot on its own? Sorry for the shitty pics but when I get it repotted, I will take some better pics :dancer:

Chuck it in at least a 12 inch pot, the bigger the better really. This will give the roots a lot of room to establish themselves and a healthy root system means more growth up top. A mix of half commercial cactus mix, with a handful of compost thrown in mixed with 50% perlite will do it well.

ahhh the pics aren't expanding lame. So okay AT LEAST a 12in pot, thanks karode   But whats the biggest I can use? :awesurprise:

I only have some miracle grow cactus soil, pavers sand and perlite. I was going to do the 2 parts cactus soil 1 part pavers sand 1 part perlite as I read from cactus dans mix. Lowes and HD don't have very good growing materials besides these. Would a handful of the Kellogg N'Rich compost that they sell there be ok as compost?

You can go as Big as you want, being in Socal you could probably put it in ground too.

That mix is what mine are in and they took rain everyday for almost a week without harm

Unfortunatly, my property is a new development and the soil is horrrrrible, because it was built out of a mountain! It takes me a day to dig a small hole because its like digging into rock :frown: When I am done I usually have 1 giant pile of rocks and 1 giant pile of soil. I might eventually try putting a cutting in the soil to see how it does, but I want full control over this monstrose its a beauty! :pirate:
