WI gyms!! :) Lets add a new one :)

So i couldn't afford to make it alllll the way to ohio camping......but made it a couple hrs upnorth instead to Some wicked wicked trout creeks too Mmmmmmmmmmm they taste soooo goood its unreal:drooling: Such a beautiful place tucked back back back n the woods - i never NEVER thought id be suprized by my buddies the majic gyms:crazy2: But as usuall - i look on the path and what do i see..................But a beautifull majic gym....staring right back at me:bow2: I swear these won't leave me alone now - and i indeed am glad to always seem to find these friends out n the woods here:super::cool:
And im glad to say - this is not from a normal spot i find them at - this is a NEW GYM FOLKS:awedance: ive only found some like these once before - im soooooo glad this lil fella wanted to share his beauty with me on Father'sday:bow2: - oh - and i got one PHATTTYYYY print off this bugger:thumbup: Saving this one for professional research purposes ONLY
I DO HAVE TO SAY.......Add one more "ACTIVE" gym to the WI list fellas:thumbup:
Idk what to exactly call these - but they are more orange and purple than luteus or BLG's and this was growing off a PINE log in a major pine woods:crazy2: look closely and there are bluegreen spot on the stem and lil ones on the cap where the lil fly holes are - and notice the stem is NOT yellow as hell like lutes - and the purple part at the top of the stem is def a defining characteristic of this find - this one bruised green/blue and MAD purple!!! Made it a very special fathersday indeed:cheers:

Thanks fellas:thumbup: i really hope MrMush or Rockafeller want some spores of this - in a week or two ill b able to have this one and a BUNCH of luteus
Hopefully some from the BLG"S too but their habitat is SWAMPED with water
i could barely even get a good pic if they fruit now without wearing waders:laugh: - Im really stoked ive now found 3 active varieties of gyms
I looked for these purplish ones wayyyy south last weekend with no avail
but ha ha ha - they found me this weekend:awedance:

idk how much it weighed for sure - id guess maybe 20gr wet or so - it wan't that huge - lil bigger than most of my luteus - but smaller than the BLG's
It was a pretty specimen for sure - even tho it was quite old and sun burnt!!
It still left a phatty print too- twas perfect:thumbup:
- and id say overall - gyms are bout half the potency of cubes or less - mostly depends on when they are picked tho too - pins are forsure potent - and when the gyms are large tho - it takes ALOT to get a nice experience-----id go with 12-15dry gr of pretty lil pinners - - or 25+dry gr of larger old specimens
then you'll kno you r def feeling the gyms - and by nooooooo means would that b OVERWHELMING like it looks - gyms are sooooo melow and natural - very unique indeed - worth trying when you can pick pretty lil pins without killing off the species!!!

Now I need MrMush n Rockefeller to chime in!!!!! i didn't do the -cut the fruit in half trick - but id say the flesh is yellow as seen by the base of the stem - but the cool purple ring and redish coloring is also very cool and unique to this find - id love to get this new gym on the WI list very much!!

I also first thought g. luteofolius aswell:thumbup: That purple is very bright!!
Here is some more pics - this one is the fruit in more natural light - notice how light the stem is ( def not my normal g.luteus ) i also loved the lil blue/green spots on the stem too - a nice touch to remind one of the majic within!!!!! - and here is a pic of the cap just after i cut it For printing - NOTICE the green bruising right around the purple ring:biggrin::biggrin: - suck pretty colors on this one!!!
aND - ITS been a while for me with my trout id's but i thought that first pic was a brown trout ( a lil more golden with browner tints and bright big orange spots) - this other pic shows the two i cooked up - i think the one on the bottom thats smaller is a brook trout but im not 100%sure
all i kno is they were fun as all hell to catch and even more fun to eat!!!
I also found a phatty reishi log but way past its prime - this place is gunna be visited by me MUCH MUCH more often:thumbup: Thanks guys - if anyone can point alan or mr.mush over here please do - id love to get this print off to a good scope for some good research taxonomic purposes:cheers:

Very cool find, ive been keeping my eyes peeled for some BLG's on my hunts lately but to no avail. Nice catch you got there also, looks delicious.:thumbup:

:rotfl: No appologies necc bro:laugh: i just had to clarify at least what i thought - i learned alot this weekend - i even told the warden i caught alll brookies - but when i said i had one 14incher he said - "Damn thats one big brookie man" "idk if ive ever caught one that big myself" :laugh:
Then i took a look at my photos and figured out the lil guys were the pretty brookies - looking almost like pretty perch at first - and the golden big one had to be the brown trout - - - both tasted GGGGGRRRREAAT
and both put up a great fight too
I can't wait to get back out there again!!
Its been years since ive trout fished in a place like this - and now i kno this spot is soooo close to home too - im hooked:fishing:

DAMN! Nice Fish and Gym. Especially the Fish. I love me some trout. Best served: Camping on the shore, Dipped in Pancake batter, Cooked in a bit of butter in a pan over a Open fire IMO.:thumbup:

Yea, your first one is a brown trout and the seconds a brookie. They got togue (lake trout) over there?

sick finds man!!! I told you to get out and look for gyms! I found luteus at 3 different patches recently.

Likely Gymnopilus luteofolius. 

Check the color of the cap context.

Nice alan:awedance: that was my first thought aswell - i don't have the actual cap or stem anymore - but i made a phatty print:wink::wink: - i was contemplating cutting the whole thing in half for (mrmush) test - but i thought id rather just make a print and leave the cap on another similar log when i was done - - its hard to dry them in a 90degree tent with 70%+humidity:laugh:
___and i only found this one tho:sad: i kno its gotta have some family around - but i couldn't find them

And Thanks vjp - i saw your posts and knew i had to get out - my first finds tho were jsut some early big risers -( they made me think i may have missed the spring flushes) BUT NOOOOOOO - - - our weather is PERFECT :biggrin: And they are right on cue:hehehe:
we get lake trout here too - more by lake michigan - and its feeding rivers tho -
im now totally hooked on this lil stream trout fishing - it was incredible!!!
and seriously the fish were even more pretty n person - pics don't do it justice!!!:cheers:

Ive always called Lake Trout Mackinaw, a name i picked up in N. Idaho. I believe its a native name. vjp, any idea where the name Togue came from? where did hear that. just curious.
