I've tried scarification and soaking in water, soaking in orange juice until it starts to ferment (supposedly mimics seeds passing through an animals GI tract), using bottom heat under the flat, etc. all to no avail. Didn't try the paper towel method prior to planting though. I've got to try that one out now.

a good alternative that is safer than synthetic rooting hormone is to use SALIX bark..

(willow bark)

there are many many different kinds of salix spp, all willows


what you do is either take some twigs or strips of bark, pu them in a bucket of water (get enough bark for like a quarter of a regular bucket

then you cover th salix bark or twigs / leaves with enough water, let is sit for a few weeks or so, and you have a nice rooting hormone..

the water hsould be kind of thick and have this gel like stuff in it..

the aspirin like compounds from salix helps to form new roots in cuttings, stronger and faster than usual..

ALSO ive found the best way to grow incarnata from seed is to use a seed started thuing (with the plastic lid on it) it keeps it humid enough to grow, and its best to kind of soak the seeds in water for a while before putting them into the soaked peat pellets..

it tok mine a few weeks to sprout but they are lookin gooood.
