Is this PH meter any good?

This is the only ph/moisture meter I can buy locally. Is it any good?

Well there is no chance in hell I am buying a hundred dollar ph moisture meter. The second one looks nice. Maybe I will just buy a liquid ph test kit and test the run off of my casing mix and buy a cheap moisture meter because those tend to be more accurate than a cheap ph meter. You are the one who inspired me to buy one by the way Nominosum.

pH test strips are cheapest and most accurate, but as said, must be used with runoff water.  Be sure to wear gloves or use a tool to squeeze the water out so your hands won't alter the reading.

If you want a good pH meter, they run a hundred dollars or more.  The cheap ones are crap.

Thanks a lot RR, you really have been swooping in to save the day for me lately. What about cheap moisture meters, do they work pretty well because taking the guess work out field capacity would be great.

I bought one and ended up giving it away. You don't need a meter made for soil. Most soil meters don't work well.

I found PH test strips to be difficult to read accurately, but I'll take test strips over a cheap soil meter any day.

This is my favorite meter. They Cost $80 and work perfectly.

Well they make liquid ph test kits that cost about 5 bucks and and can be used ten times. That ought to last me a while and I would bet they work great. I am not into growing enough to spend 80 on a ph meter alone. Any advice on whether or not a cheap moisture meter will work.

ebay digital ph meter from $15 to a few hundred try and find a hanna or oakton andcalibrate with each usage i havehad the same 15 $ meter for over a yr and still acurate i have had 200$ meters crapout in a month:shrug:

This may not make much sense, but the squeeze test for field capacity is going to  be more accurate. It's also free.

A $10 soil moisture meter will read about the same for field capacity and over field capacity.

Thanks for all the good advice Sci-Fi. I have no problem visually testing field capacity using the squeeze test but I figured I could perfect my moisture content with a cheap moisture meter. Thanks a lot to anyone who responded.
