Mycomaster 2000, fruiting chamber made from a fridge. NOW WITH RESULTS! * 1
    #12644907 -

I know this has been done. I got the idea from shroomery, thank you.

Few days ago I was a bit bored and I had this fridge/freezer with broker freezer part. I decided to build an extra fruiting chamber to my cold storage space for oyster mushrooms. I had nearly all the parts just laying around. I had a leftover pump part from GHE:s rainforest hydrophonics (police officers carried my bushes one time in its container and I never got it back).

Parts list:
-old fridge/freezer
-31 liter storage bin
-old cooker hood
-tubes and pipes
-rainforest pump
-timers/wires
-thermostat
-aquarium heater
-some lights with a glass hood
-lots of tools and time

In shortly: I drilled the holes, fixed shelfs to right heights and did the tubing and wiring, assembed lighting and heating.

Because top part is still working, I wired both heating and cooling to thermostat, so now I can set any temp I want. I'm definately going to try some serious cold shocking. Cooker hood moved way too much air so I had to drill some holes to it so air flow isn't so high to the FC.

So here it is!

Tubing:

Top part:

Bottom part:

Thermostat (flash affected lcd):

Logo (of course):

First I tried with 15-15 timing and it was totally bad. There was no heating wired at the moment.

Then I switched to 5-5 timing. That was quite good.

But it moved too much air so decided to put it on 4 on - 11 off cycle.

I haven't really tested yet the cooling thing, I'll let you know. I haven't tested it with stuff inside (besides that perlite tray).

Going to update and write some more when I have inspiration.

THE RESULTS
Multispore Amazon, NO dunking, NO misting, NO fanning at all! 1370g wet one flush.

looks nice but it seems like a lot of work when a Martha setup could give you the same results. From what I have heard having temps fluctuate a little is a good thing and stimulates growth.

Still though it looks sweet.

Sweeeet man, as you already know  I love big overly complicated fruiting chambers. Yeah you could just stick it in a tub, but what fun is that! I'd give you 5 but I'm sure I already did for your lab.

LOL........
I have one like that made from a dead upright freezer.
Only differance is I run a coolmist on top it for FAE.
And, an adjustable heat bomb (aquaruim heater in a jar)in the bottom for heating it.
I just love mine.

I have a martha style greenhouses already. And you can't heat them properly. Or cool. It's in a cold storage room in other building than my house. And the work is already done.

My coolmists are in other use and I didn't want to order new ones again overseas. And I had the parts so.. My heater is also in water on the bottom of the top part.

Always had the idea to turn the freezer bit into a laminar flow/incubator, with small space heater for heat shocking and have the lower part as my fruiting chamber...do all my work right there, then let my jars and cultures sit in a super clean environment and transfer then down to fruit...I would need to find a really large and clean fridge, but it'd be worth the hassle to have a work station, that's readily mobile and easily cleanable. Would just have to hook up the blower and filter through the back of the fridge side and exhaust it out sideways, so you can still place it against a wall and either spray foam insulate or silicone seal any gaps or leaks between the lower fridge and the freezer.

Then plaint the whole thing black with some tweaked out decals on the sides and front and BAM!...you have my next dream project:smoker:

You can set to the thermostat how many degrees it can be off before anything happens so you can control this too.

They make a good incubator, when not in fruiting mode.
i simply turn off the coolmist FAE, then colonize trays in it.
Once trays are colonized, add casing cover, incubate for a few more days.
Then, turn on the lights & coolmist FAE on timer cycles & fruit the babies.

When the Apocalypse comes there will still be shrooms growing in that thing.
I fear my GH won't last more than a year.

Nice, you got some massive mushies in there, amazing from MS.

Question, that light doesn't appear to be 6500k, it just seems like a regular 'warm' colored light.  How did you get such good results?

I have only daylight tubs, need to get a small CFL to fit in there some day. I think its the FAE from outside air what makes the great results.

I was too wasted yesterday to pick em up. Besides there is only a temperature sensor.

Very nice, how much substrate in that bin, roughly?

Its 10 qt bin. I used about 1:2 spawn.

50 coir
40 verm
10 gypsum
1 teaspoon bloodmeal

I was also testing a few tablespoons of Mineral magic. Real test will be done with isolate later, I have too much to do at the moment.
