Not exactly. As it turns out, it's all about death and the beyond.

Damn, man, my head is still spinning from all that!

I loved all the little hidden info in the show and all the attention to detail - first TV show I've watched in a while - I feel like it's the end of a long relationship...

in a philosophical sense, sure. but the focus has always been on the characters and their stories. i've never seen a show devote multiple episodes to each individual person. its like they all got their own spin-off within the context of one show.

I'm a little flabberghasted by all the people I'm talking to who seem to think the finale was saying that the Island never existed, that they were all dead. It seems pretty obvious to me that the island was quite real, that Jack truly did die after plugging the hole back up, laying on his back in a field of bamboo, his last vision the sight of the plane carrying a new Oceanic Six back to the mainland.

The flash-sideways was revealed to be a most beautiful, wonderful, philosophical and metaphysical construct. A place they all created together in their minds as the afterlife where they could find one another again.

I think Jack's father put it best when he said,"We all have to die sometime, just some before others."

Anyway, I still think it was the best show ever to be on television. It'll be damn hard to beat and I'll miss the hell out of it.

One of my favorites, but not the best. Battlestar Galactica and Carnivale, even though it was supposed to be six seasons and ended after two, still take the cake for me.

I actually liked this finale a lot.  Of course they where never going to answer all the questions, but they have given enough information in the show now that you can come up with your own answers.  I mean there isn't anything in the show now that you couldn't explain in multiple ways (whichever way you personally wanted) that doesn't fit within the context of the show.

Perhaps they physically died when they originally crashed or perhaps not, but symbolically they did.  The island gave them a new life, a rebirth.  The island houses many forms of spirits, as we have seen those who are dead live on in some form.

I think this is a creative play on a new religious idea.  This idea that life and death goes in a cycle, like Hinduism, except instead of being born in this world, you are born in another universe.  The island is just some kind of doorway (or cork) to something else, and of course it has strange properties.  Electro magnetism transports Desmond into his own "afterlife!"

I think that the afterlife thing is more then that, it is a life its self.  The losties just had to remember their past life in order to move on.  Just like one can supposedly remember their past life according to many religions.

I think the island is the source of all religion in the world perhaps.

The show said a lot of interesting things about humanity and God.  Are religions and science looking for the same thing?  Are we just pawns in a game?  Do we REALLY have free will or are we stuck with our fate?  Does anything happen for a reason?  Does EVERYTHING happen for a reason?  Is everything just a coincidence?  In what ways are we all connected?  How is our life affected by things we can't possibly even imagine (time travel, God, or any aspect of the universe).  Why does evil happen, and is it necessary for some greater good?

Okay so help me out here;

Interesting thought that Jack does not die until the end in the bamboo field, but then Kate and Sawyer were on the Aijira flight leaving, but also in the church in Sideways - so they never dies, but were in the sideways scenes. Then the people in the Church are all dead - so then that seems to not work in my mind...

But then you have to say, okay they all died on the original impact -

So did Jacob touch them all and put them all on that flight so that they could all come together to the island (via death).

Then they all have this experience on the Island and off Island - bringing them through all kinds of battles, etc.

And were all the people in Sideways on the plane - Desmond and Ben - were they really on the plane and not on the Island all along?

And why doesn't Ben go into the Church? He's not ready to let go? Is that because he is going to stay on the Island as Hurley's second? And Hurley? He doesn't have to protect the Island?

??????

Jack's father says everyone dies sometime. He says some of the people in the church will die after him, some died long before. It doesn't matter that they're all in the church in that moment. That moment is the singularity - that DMT glow of all-connectedness.

Let go of the idea that these two "places" "dimensions" "realities" cannot exist at the same time. The sideways reality always exists and always will. It is the place they all go when they die and are always together with the people they loved the most, the people who they cared about the most. There is no causal relationship between true reality (the island, Desmond, Hurley, everything, it's real...somewhere a plane is landing with Kate, Sawyer, Claire, Miles, Frank and Richard Alpert and their lives will continue) and the sideways reality which is just a philosophical idea, that is as real as anything else.

I guess Linus is still alive then, because he didn't go into the church and had "unfinished business".

He didn't go into the church because he's not ready yet...he has sins he needs to clear before he can enter the after-life or whatever the light is (killing his father, the dharma folks)

Something that puzzled me though is what did the H-bomb do,clearly it didn't create an alternate reality, did it just reset the island in it's right time?Did it do nothing?Did it give them the power to create the place in their minds where they all could see each other again?

Did they all die with the H-bomb and the Sideways was then the reality?

Noooooooooooooooo. The island shifted back into normal time. The island was real and they lived and died on the island and some of them made it off the island - six of them in fact.

Wait are you talking about when the island disappeared when Locke turned the wheel (Oceanic 6), or the hydrogen bomb that created the Sideways world? I'm just confused and appreciate the help figuring the puzzle out

I thought it was the perfect finale for a show like Lost. I loved it. It was really confusing up until the end, but it's all good 'cause the ending was beautiful.

Here's what I got out of it:
The island WAS real, and everything that happened on the island actually happened (I don't understand how some people think that they all died in the plane crash).

The island was a place for these people to go to work out their issues after they had hit the peak of their life.

The Flash-Sideways parts were purgatory, a reality that the characters fabricated to deal with their death and the events that transpired on the island. They were also full of symbolism.

The reason Michael and Walt were not in the church was because Michael was a bad person who didn't deserve to go to "heaven" or where ever everyone else went, and Walt didn't die.

Ben didn't enter the church because he didn't think he deserved to yet, he still needed to, like someone said already, "cleanse his sins".

The island was just magic, and that's that. They didn't explain everything that happened because that would ruin the immense mystery that surrounded the island. I like that they left all of that open for the viewer to form their own opinions on.

But yeah, beautiful ending. Lots of really sad moments too, like when Charlotte and Daniel met backstage and she didn't recognize him. That blank look that Charlotte gave Daniel was heartbreaking. I also love how they ended the series with Jack closing his eye, and started the series with Jack opening his eye. Awesome decision.

Yeah, the more I think about it he better it seems...i just might have to watch it again...it's a beautiful ending,it doesn't explain a whole lot (I don't think i really want to know) but it is beautiful,it is a true happy ending...

And yet I am left wanting more,I hope they don't make more though.
