Its in your manual that came with your pressure cooker. If you don't have one call the manufacturer, I have known them to always be helpful and willing to send new manuals out.

My best friend's neighbor's dog's fleas were well known mushroom growers so I asked them Newcaps question and this is their reply."You should normally have a few inches of water in your cooker depending on the type suck suck suck spit.. ahhh and mmm munch munch suck suck spit normally you need to have some form of rack to keep the jars on. Hope this helps... BOING BOIng BOing Boing boing boing...." I think you should thank the fleas yo!

Newcap, I use an All-American type pressure cooker and the manual says to use about an inch or two of water. In my experience, I only cover the rack in the bottom, it's about 3/4"- 1" tall and even when doing 1/2 Gal grain masters for 1 1/2 Hr. at 15 psi, I still wind up dumping out most of the water. Don't put in too much or it may splash up and into your 1/2 pts and oversaturate them, ruining your batch. Best of luck.
