Comfortably Numb
    #12589253 -

Pink Floyd's song Comfortably Numb is supposed to be about of Pink's battle to handle the world in the Wall but to me it is definitely describing opiate usage for the first time.

Dicuss.

Thats the beauty of music, it is interpreted by the listener, not the maker

The Wall is probably the best album ever to listen to while tripping. I just feel so inspired and good when I listen to there music.

I mean everyone is going to come up with their own interpretation of every song, that's what makes music so great. What the artists intend to communicate based off their own experience/emotions can be entirely different from what the audience gets from it. I have not read up on Pink Floyd's intended meaning of "Comfortably Numb" but if what you said is true, then I think that song is an excellent example of the anomaly of what's intended vs what's received. I also personally interpret the song to being so withdrawn from your environment as a result of opiate usage.

Very good album, but it is my least fave. Animals, DSOTM, Wish You Wre Here, pretty much anything before The Wall FTW. But then again I am 45.

Most people know that they wrote the Wall about Nazi Germany and all that jazz which to me fits prefect and is obviously what The Wall is about but I personally feel there are many hidden messages in the album including the withdrawal from reality as a result of opiate usage.

Yea, The Wall can be quite intense on shrooms.
Wish You Were Here or Dark Side of the Moon while tripping =

Im actually pretty sure the songs were written to inspire drug usage. When people hear pink floyd they say "wow that was great, I bet it would be fuckin sweet to hear when were trippin our balls off"

I could never listen to the Wall while tripping, eeek. I'm not actually a huge fan of the album. And by "I'm not a huge fan" I still really like it, but it doesn't compare to the amount of "like-ness" I have for the rest of the albums. Except the Final Cut of course, that's just a disaster and a half.

I really like Meddle and/or Animals best while tripping. Division Bell is pretty ace as well.

Pink Floyd's not one guy, its the name of the band.  i just hate it when people are talking about floyd and they say "him" or "he"....but i dont think the song is about heroin, i dont think waters was into that kind of stuff

Rick Wright:"Factually, we started during the late '60s with the psychedelic music, a period that was known as experimental as far as drugs were concerned. The Pink Floyd were in the middle of that culture, so everyone naturally assumed that we were also doing drugs. But that wasn't the case. In Syd Barrett's case it was, but not in our case. I think that music was our drug. Of course, we all did drugs here and there in social events, but I've tried only once in my life, and it was marijuana, before a show. We went onstage, I think it was in Paris in '68, and I couldn't play a single note. Actually, I did manage to play one note. It's a mistake thinking that drugs supplied Pink Floyd with the inspiration. The ones who took drugs were the ones who came to see the shows."

Agreed.  I didn't like the Wall on a high dose of mushrooms, especially the second disc.  That shit is heavy.

I've noticed that a lot of the truly talented musicians don't use any drugs, and it's only their fans that do. Interesting isn't it? For example, Buckethead and Frank Zappa

2nd LSD trip, i mentioned it to my mom. I came home the next day and she had bought Dark Side for me.

It wasn't so cool when she got woke up at 4 in the morn by us in the front yard blasting it!
