i can name shit load of groups i still like and listen too, still to this day, and i cannot say that all their albums (obviously) are good nor that most of the newer ones that will eventually get released by almost any group or artist.

Is this a trick question? Were they ever really great musicians?
I did and still enjoy the Black album from time to time.
This personal review may be biased based on my prejudice against Lars for being such a giant douche.

Are they even still the same band?  A lot of these bands and just a brand nowadays and all the original members have left or died.

all of their albums before the black album were quite progressive for metal music. made better results from bands afterwards but still... good progressive band.

(and no, i donèt mean like progressive rock music.... i mean it literally)

I have liked Metallica since I was intorduced to the black album when it came out.  Their music grows on me... seems better with time.

I love metallica's classic stuff though. Especially the S&M album. Metal mixed with an orchestra can be pretty damn Epic.
