You don't have to swim in it.

You live on land.

True.

But I'm still ticked off, on behalf of the fish, shrimp, coral, sharks, dolphins, sea gulls, plant life, FUNGI, and any other life form that does not have the ability to scream in outrage and pain as it is snuffed out by this abomination.

NO MORE CARS. RIDE YOUR BIKE.

I love food from far away places which is transported to me in machines which are powered by oil and i, being the conscious caring environment minded guy that i am, am not willing to give up this food. (not to mention the wine variety of products which enrich my life in many ways, which come from afar.)

In a few years, after you graduate from college, you too will buy a car.

It's really easy to say 'look at me, im perfect' when your livelihood doesnt require a vehicle.  Though I'm sure your life still wouldnt be possible without all the petroleum products you use or the petroleum it took to deliver them to you.

There are over 6.5 billion people breathing right now.  They cant all just ride bikes.

maybe if our government would allow already existing technology to be used in this country we could avoid things like this. i know oil has its place but for fucks sake someone needs to shoot these lobbyists so we can move on!

One word: Telecommuting.

If you have a job that requires you to be on site, I understand. Otherwise, you should be telecommuting. It saves time and money, conserves gas and mileage; and perhaps best of all, it drastically reduces stress:

Agreed!  I do think it an odd coincidence that this happened so soon after Obama agreed to allow more offshore drilling, offending a good part of his supporters in the process.  Aquatic ecosystems are too fragile to tolerate this, and many are in trouble already.  If the Exxon-Valdez spill didn't teach us the importance of fool-proof containment systems then we have no business risking the consequences of tapping into these wells, most of which have reserves so small that they barely have any impact on our supply, nor do they produce enough to reduce oil prices by a fraction of a penny.  The only ones benefiting from them are the ones that own them, and look at what their profiteering has cost us.

While that might work if you are a computer programmer or website designer or any number of bullshit 'jobs' that many Americans weasel their way into, how do you propose that 'everyone telecommute'?  What about the folks that actually do things at their jobs like miners, farmers, truckers, doctors, construction workers, factory workers, etc?

Maybe if we all just 'worked from home' doing website advertising or something the world would be a better place?

No.  People starve.
