Use as spawn after first flush?? " PLS HELP"

Ok so here is my dilemma: I have 8 jars colonizing (BRF) that are prety close to complete! this one jar is about 97% done and My plan is to use them as spawn for bulk to coir. I looked at this one jar and it has a TON of little pins starting at the top! I dont want to open it for another 2 days until its fully colonized so that means those pins should be much bigger when i do.

My question is, when i open it, can i fruit it for a day or 2 till those shrooms are done and still crumble it for spawn like my original intent was after its frutes once? or will it already have switched from colonize mode to fruit mode :frown:

Or should i just crumble it the second i open it? I really wish it didn't start pinning!!!!

1. If you birth it and fruit it, it will undoubtably be contaminated. You could dip it in a 10% bleach sol. followed by a rinse except
2. If it is pinning, it will continue to pin after you break it up. It's ok for next years outdoor bed, but if you spawn it it will continue to flush, at least once. That tends to cause problems.

WTF are you talking about?  We've known for years that you can break up pinning spawn and use it to inoculate bulk.  It doesn't contaminate at any higher rate than normal.  Mushrooms are 100% mycelium and can easily be broken up with the brf or grains and spawned to bulk, as proved by thousands of growers who clone fruit bodies to use as future spawn.

I agree, I wouldn't fruit it and then use it as spawn. Besides being dirty, it's in a fruiting state, and won't take off very vigorously at first.

Since it's pinning, why not just fruit it in some small container?

So roger, Will it colinise as quickly if i use it, as apposed to jar that wasn't pinning?  Because my other jar's arnt even close to being done and i really want to start the mono tub for bulk with this one.

If the jar is pinning invitro, yes it will colonize just as fast.  However, don't birth the substrate, let it fruit, and then use it for spawn.  Doing so almost always leads to contaminants because it's already had a few weeks of contaminant spores landing on it.

Now Im still a new grower but so far i have not had any problems with contam except for my shiitake block and that was because I didnt pay have the right environment set up for it.

That being said I know you can let it go through its first flush and then crumble because i have done this multiple times. I know most people on here seem to be against it but I take all of my cakes after about 3 flushes and let them dry out(not completely)just enough to where they will absorb water well. I then put them in a 10-15% peroxide solution for four hours and then tap for 18hrs. Then i crumble them to a substrate with a 5 to 10% peroxide to water ratio. Seems fine so far and Iv done this about 7 to 10 times.

LIKE I SAID though I am still very new so take this (me)with a grain of salt when someone such as RR or anybody experienced advises differently, but I know it can be done.

I see RR replied and does suggest otherwise but i will post this anyways. Not trying to disagree RR as I have no doubt that you have much more knowledge, but I just think my experiences have some relevancy.
