Night Sky Photography
    #12417715 -

Michi mi & I took our hand at night sky photography the other evening... this turned out to be harder than you would imagine. Due to our location and light pollution results were minimal. This was done on a Nikon D5000 with wide angle lens and a few modified settings. Any length of exposure would bring star trails but we thought we should share with you a few of our favorites. :discorex:

We'll post more as our skill progresses.. wish we lived in the middle of Arizona.

The first one looks good, but the others seem a bit shaky.

Did you use a tripod?

A tripod is a must for night shots.

Of course we used a tripod..

Like we explained: Where we live it's hard to get anything to show up in an exposure rate under of 1/15th of a second (if we lived out west this exposure rate would work and there would be no star trails). In these shots the exposure is well over 1 -5 minutes; which creates star trails from the earth rotation (obviously).

This was a lot of fun. But we need to find a more secluded and darker spot. For our first time they turned out great! I'm excited to see how we improve :cuddles:

Very cool!  I love taking photos of the night sky.

You have done very good. These are great photos.

Now do a long exposure one so you can get the swirl pattern.

There are some really cool shots of the night sky, with exposures where the shutter is open for HOURS and create awesome effects. you should try really long exposures if your camera is capable, the outcome is super gnarly.

Yeah it's more than capable we just haven't found a good place to leave it for the whole night. We live in town so we figure when we go camping we shall set it up for a all night exposure.
